RIST Recovery Support Interventionist

Position located in Middletown CT

Purpose

The Recovery Interventions Services Team (RIST) Recovery Support Interventionist works to establish rapport and working relationships with clients with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders who are experiencing homelessness or who are at-risk of homelessness. The Interventionist promotes individuals' strengths and abilities via a wide variety of tasks to mutually support clients in gaining an understanding of employment, recovery principles and practices, including Hope, Personal Responsibility, Choice, Education, Self-Advocacy and Empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Models recovery-oriented coping skills, self-help strategies, and the regular use of wellness tools. Ensures that those who need mainstream benefits programs (TANF, SNAP, etc.) are referred to appropriate resources and connects those who may be eligible for SSI/SSDI to the RIST SOAR Specialist. Refers clients interested in obtaining employment to workforce agencies. Connects clients to an array of integrated services to promote recovery from mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders. Continuously prepares the client for transfer of care to permanent housing and recovery support caregivers. Must serve a minimum of 42 clients per grant year (October through September). Clients will be referred from other Columbus House programs and outside agencies, but there is also an outreach component to this position. The Interventionist will seek out eligible clients in the community. Locations for outreach may include emergency shelters, soup kitchens, halfway houses, motels, and other places as deemed appropriate. This position will serve the Meriden/Middlesex County/Wallingford region. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The RIST Recovery Support Interventionist has lived experience and has demonstrated stability in their own recovery. A Bachelor's degree with relevant work experience is preferred. A valid Driver's License with a good driving history is required. Able to effectively use the local network of substance abuse, mental health, and social services providers. Time management skills and computer literate with a deadline oriented mindset. Able to meet all documentation requirements. Complete knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of person-centered case management. Able to assess strengths, barriers, and needs to assist clients in identifying personal goals, values and priorities, and has the ability to advocate for consumers as well as support self-advocacy. Familiar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and group dynamics; capacity to work within a team and foster teamwork, but also work independently. Crisis intervention skills, boundaries, confidentiality, universal precautions, harm reduction, strong empathetic skills. Ability to maintain her or his own wellness. Must be respectful, non-judgmental, compassionate, and empathetic towards others while developing complimentary partnerships with team members and community resources. Must be both organized and flexible while able to employ recovery language as appropriate.

Supervised by: Manager of Middlesex Services

Pay: $17.30 to $19.23 per hour plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, flexible
