Job Description

Position Title:
Production Shift Supervisor-Valassis

3rd Shift 10pm - 6am Saturday - Wednesday

Position Description:
Responsible for the motivation, coaching and leading in the supervision of non-exempt manufacturing associates. Execution of production efficiency standards, company policies, guidelines and production documentation that support daily operations.


Skills Required:

  • Ethical leadership to motivate associates towards meeting and/or exceeding production goal performance, and maintaining team engagement.
  • Coordinates labor resources including Company associates and temp labor daily, to ensure adequate teams and production needs are met.
  • Reviews shift production performance with Sr. Manufacturing Manager and recommend improvements including the reduction of shortages.
  • Interviews, recommends and/or makes hiring decisions for manufacturing personnel.
  • Partners with manager to complete the Performance Management Process, establishing annual goals, and formally evaluating performance within established company time-frames.
  • Provides salary increase input to Leaders on direct reports.
  • Utilizes recognition tools to reward outstanding associates.
  • Manages associate relations issues, including but not limited to progressive discipline and terminations as appropriate, in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Consistently and fairly administers company policies to ensure positive associate relations.
  • Ensures safety is a primary focus and concern for all associates and work is performed in a safe, appropriate manner.Completes accident and incident investigations and documents.
  • Trains associates on proper work techniques to drive optimum proficiency.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of hours for payroll and tracking of attendance.
  • Develop team leaders to assist with shift needs, and ensure leaders are equipped to efficiently delegate work assignments.
  • Builds relationships and maintains ongoing rapport with associates and internal/external customers.
  • Implements change management and process improvement activities.
  • Assists in developing and achieving dept. goals, metrics, objectives and performance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all equipment has the proper safety devices/ is safe to operate.
  • Other duties as assigned by senior plant leadership.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of supervisoryexperience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and occasional holidays (weekends are part of the normal work schedule).
  • Bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Bilingual skills a plus (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to seek cooperation, persuade and influence associates, peers, and internal/external customers.
  • Previous leadership experience or demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Solution oriented and analytical approach towards production/staffing forecasting, data analysis, goal setting, cost containment and interpretation of reporting results.
  • Promotes, educates others, supports, and participates in diversity programs at locations and builds a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to lead effectively, including establishing and maintaining high performing work groups.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance programs and safety practices.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to carry up to 50lbs, push and pull up to 50lbs, twist, stand, walk, reach, and grip/grasp throughout the shift. Employees are also required to lift up to 50lbs, squat, and kneel occasionally. Lastly, employees are required to have the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
