Job Description

The City of Merritt is seeking a Building Official I to join our team. As a Building Official I, you will check and interpret plans and specifications, compare plans with the construction in progress, suggest and enforce changes or corrections required with impartiality and sound judgement. You will work with the guidance and mentorship of the Senior Building Official as you review building and plumbing permit applications, issue licences and permits in accordance with established procedures and conduct on-site building and plumbing inspections of business and residential premises.

Qualifications

• Certified Level 1 Building Official or Building Inspector courses that meet the level I requirements with the willingness tocomplete the BOABC level 1 certification.
• Plumbing inspection certification or willingness to obtain qualification.
• Member of the Building Officials Association of BC (BOABC) or eligible for membership.
• Solid understanding of relevant acts and regulations including but not limited to BC’s energy step code, the Building Act and Building Act General Regulation, Building Codes, Safety Standards Act, regulations and safety standards, Local Government Act, Community Charter.
• Proficient computer skills.
• A valid Driver's License (class 5) and satisfactory driving record.
