Job Description

The Program Associate is responsible for supporting successful planning and implementation of Free the Slaves’ strategy for eradicating slavery and child labor in the regions where FTS is implementing field programs. This role includes some components of administrative support. The Program Associate will report to the DC-based Senior Program Manager, who will assign duties in support of country programs. The Program Associate will develop effective, collegial relations with country and regional office staff, as well as with the Communications, Advocacy, Development, Operations, Training, Monitoring, Learning & Evaluation staff, and other team members. This is an exciting position that will support growth in Free the Slaves programs.

Responsibilities

  • Be one of the point of contacts for the FTS office and Programs teams, to respond to their needs and requests
  • Support the country and regional offices and partners regarding day-to-day operations

· Support the development and monitoring of annual and long-term plans and budgets by the country and regional programs, aligning them with the broader FTS strategy

· Support the development and implementation of FTS programmatic strategies

· Support the coordination of FTS programs including regional, partnerships, training and capacity building, research and advocacy activities

· Coordinate key partnerships for our global programs

· Oversee the materials development including translations and dissemination

  • Assist in developing, editing, and formatting reports and other project or presentation documentation
  • Assist with the review and preparation of budgets and financial reports including the realignment of existing budgets, financial reconciliations, and payments for invoices and expenses
  • Assist the Development team to ensure proposals are developed and submitted, and support needed follow up.

· Support country office compliance with national regulations governing registered NGOs

· Oversee the recruitment, and help manage the work, of Program interns

· Work with the FTS Programs teams on internal and external communications

  • Assist with review of official documents for country offices and sub-awardees and ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements
  • Fulfill other programmatic, administrative, and financial functions as required
  • Attend meetings (external and internal)

Qualifications

Required

  • ·An existing right to work in the U.S. (green card or U.S. citizenship)
  • · Fluency in English (an additional language is highly preferred, especially Spanish)
  • · Strong organizational and time management skills
  • · Detail oriented
  • · Can multitask and prioritize multiple tasks based on deadlines
  • · Is interested in working with grassroots, community-based organizations, especially those with a human rights mission
  • · Passion and commitment to ending modern slavery
  • · Innovative spirit and willingness to use creative thinking
  • · Determination and ability to sustain positive, respectful and dynamic relationships with overseas partners, alongside expectations of mutual accountability
  • · Ability to develop budgets, understand income and expenditure reports, and give meticulous attention to financial management
  • · Ability to work with limited administrative support
  • · Strong English writing skills, including ability to write for different audiences, including reporting for donors and proposal writing
  • Preferred

Experience or expertise in the following areas:

  • · At least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • · Fluency in Spanish or other United Nations relevant language
  • · Minimum experience or knowledge of the anti-slavery and anti-trafficking movements
  • · Substantial experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • · Substantial experience with graphics, photoshop, presentations, etc.
  • · Skilled in grant management and program operations management
