Strategic Engagement is charged with leading communications and building partnerships to support the agency's mission to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteerism. Due to COVID-19, this position is currently under situational teleworkResponsibilitiesHelp proactively promote AmeriCorps and Senior Corps on a daily basis, playing a key role in sharing our mission of service. Offer creative ideas, stay current on best practices in communications, and constantly improve how we do business. Help create and execute plans for the release of new content and run metrics reports to measure success. Draft and edit news releases and fact sheets, field media inquiries, conduct media outreach, build and maintains press release distribution lists for local and national news outlets. Track news coverage of topics related to agency work and draft and distributes daily news clips. Drafts social media posts and other content for use on agency channels. Draft email messages, work with stakeholders on approvals, and share via GovDelivery email marketing platform. Conduct research to develop communications materials and respond to inquiries. Relentlessly pursue excellence on every project, set priorities, meet deadlines, and raise awareness when problems arise.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsApplicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-01 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-05 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Maintaining effective working relationships at multiple levels within an organization in order to develop and disseminate coordinated messages that accurately address organizational programs; Preparing written or multimedia materials to promote the organization's position on a variety of sensitive, controversial and/or complex issues; and Assisting with designing and tailoring meetings and public involvement strategies to the general public and special target audiences that involved a degree of controversy. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.EducationIf qualifying based on education alone, you must have a one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement as defined by being in the upper third of your graduating class; or possessing a 3.0 GPA or higher over four years of education; or possessing a 3.5 GPA or higher during final 2 years of education. A copy of your unofficial transcript must be submitted. As a public affairs expert, takes complex legal issues, and translates them into readable, engaging materials, including but not limited to: news releases, media advisories, fact sheets, media plans, statements and/or speeches. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the Public Affairs Specialist position at the GS-14 level, you must meet the following requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing, planning and directing a comprehensive public affairs program for a large organization or federal government agency specifically for the issue areas encompassing national consumer protection and/or domestic law enforcement; devised and executed a public relations program explicitly related to commerce or economic policy, and/or written news releases explicitly related to commerce or economic policy for a large (national in scope) organization or U.S. federal agency, or worked as a professional journalist writing about commerce or economic policy for a national news outlet. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
