POSITION: Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction

REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal

The Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction will collaborate with members of the school leadership team to ensure planning and delivery of effective instruction to ensure success for all students in our school community. The Coordinator will coach a cohort of teachers, provide high-impact professional development, facilitate regular communication about student achievement results, and ensure continuous improvement of instructional programming and practices. The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced instructional coach with a strategic, collaborative, and solutions oriented approach. This is a 12-month position.

Responsibilities

This leader will serve on collaborative teams and support school progress and growth. The Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction will contribute to school success in the following ways:

Talent Leadership

Manage and develop teachers by providing individualized, actionable feedback and professional development based on evidence from observations and data reviews;

Develop and implement results-oriented professional development opportunities to increase teacher effectiveness;

Ensure continuous improvement of instructional practices by monitoring team members incorporation of feedback into practice;

Implement a rigorous and consistent evaluation system aligned to network requirements in order to drive toward continuous improvement;

Support with regular reviews of outcomes to continuously identify, recognize, and retain effective team;

Participate in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnel.

Instructional Leadership

Coordinate and co-facilitate the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process.

Develop in collaboration with the principal, the formulation of the vision, goals, objectives, and specific strategies for the math program and MTSS program

Collaborate with members of the school leadership team to support staff in effectively planning and implementing exemplary instruction aligned to student learning needs and Common Core and/or state standards;

Assess quantitative and qualitative data to monitor outcomes and continuously improve the quality of instruction for all scholars;

Review lesson plans and provide targeted feedback to ensure delivery of top-quality plans reflecting effective instructional strategies and content aligned to instructional standards;

Ensure timely creation, implementation, and evaluation of tiered interventions and instructional supports aligned to student learning needs through the MTSS process;

Guide teachers and staff in adapting lessons and providing interventions to support all scholars;

Develop, implement, assess, and evaluate the 1st-5th grade instructional Math program to ensure alignment, with a concentrated focus on the following areas:

Curriculum and Curriculum Guides

Pacing Guides

Assessment and testing programs

Vertical and horizontal alignment

Staff and professional development

Intervention Programs

Research-based best practices, methodologies, and strategies

Differentiated instruction

Work with teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings in order to ensure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program.

Supervise the selection and adoption of new textbooks, instructional materials, methods and programs under the direction of the Principal.

Family and Community Leadership

Build relationships with families and communicate directly with families when students require additional supports;

Support teachers and other team members in sharing key messages with families to ensure consistent communication about student progress and opportunities for collaboration related to ensure student success;

Engage community partners and seeks out community resources to enhance the school program;

Foster an environment where staff understand the specific needs and strengths of our community;

Operational and Strategic Leadership

Engage in annual strategic planning and ensure implementation of effective instructional programming to achieve targets for student achievement;

Adopt or create systems to ensure efficient and timely administration of assessments and maintain accurate information about results to effectively communicate student needs and identify trends at the school or cohort level;

Adopt or refine protocols for school-wide and cohort-level data analysis to ensure continuous improvement of instructional planning;

Allocate time and resources carefully by continuously considering the current state of the school and opportunities for improving outcomes;

Fulfill all compliance and reporting responsibilities as applies to student data and assessment of students;

Manage the assessment of students school wide for the NWEA, PARCC, any additional assessments, and the schools Annual Accountability Plan for the Performance Management Framework (PMF) as is required by the DC Public Charter School Board.

Culture Leadership

Ensure implementation of school wide routines to maximize instructional time and support for all scholars;

Foster a joyful school community where all students experience a sense of belonging;

Champion consistent and fair implementation of positive reinforcement and consequences aligned to school expectations;

Uphold high expectations for accountability by communicating clear expectations for staff and students;

Personal & People Leadership

Partner with the school leadership team and other stakeholders to develop a vision for student achievement and align all decisions to this vision;

Model belief in the potential for ALL students to achieve at high levels and continuously invest stakeholders in the school vision;

Collaborate with the school leadership team to support change management and provide opportunities for team members communicate questions and potential solutions for supporting all scholars in the context of school transformation;

Operate with a high degree of emotional intelligence, effectively communicate with stakeholders, and actively seek feedback to continuously improve;

Operate with a high degree of personal responsibility for outcomes and demonstrate resiliency in the face of challenges;

Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities from time to time as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

Pedagogical expertise and 5+ years of instructional experience;

Experience leading a team of educational professionals and achieving excellent results;

Degree in education and instructional certification(s) with supervisory/administrative certificate(s) preferred;

Demonstrated skill in building relationships with a variety of stakeholders (including staff, students, and families);

Record of achieving ambitious results;

Strong organizational and coordination skills;

Passion for developing and implementing systems and procedures to make every minute count;

Excellent strategic thinking skills;

Ability to thrive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced environment;

Passion for school transformation;

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. Employees will be contracted yearly. Contracts will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest. Health care, disability insurance, and a retirement plan: 401-(k) or the continuation of the DCPS retirement plan.
