OAI is seeking a candidate to provide support to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Protected Resources (OPR). The primary duties consist of compiling, organizing, and tagging of administrative records associated with responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and the input of Endangered Species Act (ESA) section 7 consultation records into an electronic data base. A primary OPR responsibility is the implementation of the ESA with regard to those species under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce. NMFS has five regional offices, six science centers, and more than 20 laboratories around the United States and U.S. territories. One part of implementing the ESA is the conduct of consultations with Federal action agencies under section 7 of the ESA. Such consultations must be based on best available information and data. Maintaining records on each consultation is important so that the government decisions can be supported if challenged in court, or information is requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Additionally, NMFS deployed a new Environmental Consultation Organizer (ECO) on March 15, 2019 to track and report on ESA section 7 consultations.
