An Optometric Technician is responsible for scheduling appointments, answering phones, confirming insurance eligibility, filing insurance, managing claims, pretesting patients, Use of many diagnostic technologies, dispensing trial contact lenses, keeping a sanitary environment, and creating a professional and friendly patient experience.
Responsibilities
Foster a strong partnership between the dispensary and the doctor's office.
Maintain a professional and supportive relationship with the doctor.
Answer phones; direct calls to doctor as needed.
Schedule appointments, confirm all patient appointmentsthe the day before, and greet patients entering doctor's office.
Have Welcome and HIPAA forms available for new patients. Enter new/ update patient history and personal information in system.
Maintain patient charts; update as necessary.
Complete pre-test; complete noncontact tonometry, auto refraction, color test, stereopsis test, amsler grid test, etc.
Use auto lensometer to record current glasses Rx. Set up and perform visual fields machine and retinal camera, OCT, Cell Count.
Instruct patients on wearing schedule and insertion and removal of contacts.
Maintain contact lens trial inventory; check for expired lenses, replenish as necessary.
Maintain quality control standards and ensure total patient satisfaction.
Assist Doctor and ensure all patient expectations are met.
