The General Laborer is responsible for safely and efficiently performing general labor duties at a transfer station. Responsibilities may include such things as yard clean-up, fueling vehicles and equipment, general vehicle operation, general office maintenance and other related duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
Work in accordance with WCA safety policies & procedures, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) requirements, as well as all local, state and federal laws
Clean up work areas
Fuel vehicles and equipment
Clean tracks on track type and related equipment
Perform yard work, including mowing and paper pick up
Operate general site vehicles and equipment, such as water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, mowers, trimming equipment, etc.
Perform general office maintenance and repairs, including painting and janitorial work
Direct traffic at the site as necessary
Perform maintenance and minor repairs to assigned equipment
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
Some heavy equipment knowledge (Front End Loader, tractor, etc.)
Outdoor general labor or warehouse environment experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather (hot, cold, and rainy weather)
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports to accurately complete daily assignments
Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operation, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example : two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing
Ability to make simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
Ability to repeatedly adjust the control and placement of equipment to exact position
Able to recognize unacceptable waste (such as gasoline or other flammable materials)
Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations
Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
Preferred
Valid state driver's license
Solid Waste industry or ancillary experience
