Purpose of position:

To be the person responsible for the operation (management and administration) of a RCMA Child Care Center. By applying knowledge learned from a background similar to the families serviced, provides leadership to degreed and non-degreed staff that will enhance their ability to provide a culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate and healthy Early Childhood Program and support to families. Provide a warm and friendly emotional climate for the Center and families serviced. Provide direct supervision to assigned staff.

The Program Coordinator provides guidance and direction for educational services and jointly, with the Area Coordinator, evaluates the job performance of the Center Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:

Provide the leadership for the Center and ultimate responsibility of the Center. Provide direct supervision of all staff at the Center. Create a positive quality-of-work-life environment, which will contribute to the mission of RCMA. Responsible for overseeing the interviewing, hiring, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with RCMA policies, procedures and applicable laws.

Ensure that licensing standards are met, facilities are maintained, and Human Resources and Fiscal administration is accomplished accurately and timely.

Maintain safety standards and complete necessary reports in accordance with RCMA policy, state and federal regulations.

Ensure the Center provides a developmentally appropriate and healthy Early Childhood Program.

Ensure all Center staff create and maintain trusting relationships with families so that they’re empowered to reach their goals and improve their ability to develop their children to their highest possible potential.

Ensure nutritional meals are provided to children according to USDA guidelines with sensitivity to cultural and ethnic food preferences.

Complete the hiring and proper onboarding of all new employees in collaboration with Administrative Specialist.

Complete the accreditation, annual reporting and renewal processes in collaboration with the center staff, using NAC or NAEYC.

Oversee and monitor TEACH applications and contracts.

Establish collaborative relationships with community leaders and agencies that support positive outcomes for children, families, and staff.

Commit to professionalism and RCMA.

Adheres to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral character and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. After initial hire, the employee must complete mandatory child care training in accordance with Florida Statutes and funding source requirements to retain eligibility to be employed in this position.

Within the first 30 days, an employee in this position must enroll and complete with exams:

8 hours- Health, Safety and Nutrition

Within the first 90 days, an employee in this position must enroll and complete with exams either option 1 or option 2:

Option 1 (strongly recommended)

4 hours-Identifying & Reporting Child Abuse Neglect

6 hours-Child Growth and Development

6 hours-Behavioral Observation and Screening

Option 2

2 hours-Health and Sanitation

2 hours-Safety of the Environment

1 hours Precautions in Transporting Children (if applicable)

2 hours-Child Safety and Prevention

1 hour-Planning for Emergencies

2 hours -Prevention of Child Abuse and supporting Children in Trauma

1 hour-One of the Supporting Social-Emotional Development Modules (Infant/Toddler, Preschool, Mixed-Age

group)

Important Note:

o If employee selects Option 2, once Option 2 is completed, employee will still be required to take courses under Option 1 but within 12 months of starting the first course of Health, Safety, and Nutrition.

Completion of the required coursework and passing all exams of the 45 hours are required no later than 12 months from beginning of the Health, Safety, and Nutrition course.

EDUCATION: Directors Credential Foundation level is a minimum requirement for the position.

For Directors in a center that provides VPK services– The VPK Director Credential Endorsement, VPK Education Standard Training, and Emergent Literacy for VPK will be required.

REQUIRED RCMA CORE COMPETENCIES: Accountability, Flexibility, Communication, Commitment to personal and professional development.

OTHER: Must have a farm worker background if the purpose of the Center is to provide services to the farm worker community. If the purpose of the Center is to provide services to non-farm workers, must be from the community served. Able to work flexible hours, occasional evenings and varying daytime shifts during weekdays. Some weekend work required. Must be age 21. Have or be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license and able to obtain a Commercial Driver License to operate a School Bus within 30 days of being placed into this position, if required for the work location. Driving record acceptable to RCMA’s insurance carrier is required. Ability to work with degreed and non-degreed professional staff and families.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with economically disadvantaged families in a community setting.

High School diploma or GED.

Experience with training and or supervising non-degreed professionals.
