Position & Duties (include but not limited to):

Trainee - Works with an experienced Teacher to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children and families. This position is an entry level position for teachers. The Preschool Teacher Trainee Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

Level 1 - Works with an experienced Teacher to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while supporting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children and families. The Preschool Teacher 1 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

Level 2 - Works with an experienced Teacher to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while supporting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children and families. The Preschool Teacher 2 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

Level 3 - Works as a leader of a teaching team to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. The Teacher 3 role models and mentors other teachers. The Preschool Teacher 3 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

Level 4 - Lead a classroom teaching team to provide early care and education to a classroom of preschool children, using the High Scope curriculum. The Teacher 4 is a co-teacher with another fulltime teacher. Together they are assigned to 2 groups of children in the classroom. He/She also provides leadership to part time caregivers assigned to the classroom. The Teacher 4 implements Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities in the classroom. The Teacher 4 promotes family engagement with parents of children in the classroom. The Early Childhood Specialist (or Program Coordinator) provides guidance and direction for educational services and jointly, with the Center Coordinator, evaluates the job performance of the Infant Toddler Teacher Trainee, 1, 2 and 3.

Minimum Qualifications:

Trainee:

• High School Diploma obtained by an institution accredited and recognized by DOE, OR a High School Diploma obtained by a private school that is registered with DOE, OR a GED (NOTE: If a high school diploma is earned outside the U.S., it must be translated by someone who is: a member of the American Translators Association OR an approved credential evaluation agency approved by the Bureau of Educators Certification OR an accredited college/university.)

Level 1:

• High School Diploma obtained by an institution accredited and recognized by DOE, OR a High School Diploma obtained by a private school that is registered with DOE, OR a GED (NOTE: If a high school diploma is earned outside the U.S., it must be translated by someone who is: a member of the American Translators Association OR an approved credential evaluation agency approved by the Bureau of Educators Certification OR an accredited college/university.) AND

• Transcript documentation of passing All Competency Exams for the DCF Child Care Training.

Level 2: In order to meet the minimal education requirements, please provide ONE of the following:

• Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) Birth - 5 years OR

• Preschool National CDA (*) OR

• Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC) OR

• Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate (CCAC) OR

• Staff Credential Verification NECC

• 9 college credits in early childhood education and 3 months experience in the field (480 hours) in teaching preschool-age children

Note: Further training appropriate to the age of children being served, may be required.

Level 3: Must have one of the following:

• AS degree in early childhood education or child development OR

• AA/AS or BA/BS degree and coursework equivalent* to a major relating to early childhood education (18 credits) with experience (480 hours) in teaching preschool age children.

Level 4: Must have one of the following:

• BA/BS degree in early childhood education or child development OR

• BA/BS degree and coursework equivalent* to a major relating to early childhood education (18 credits) with experience (480 hours) in teaching preschool-age children

Passing of DCF background screening requirements

REQUIRED RCMA CORE COMPETENCIES: Accountability, Flexibility, Communication, Commitment to personal and professional development.

Desired Qualifications:

• Member of community being served, and, when applicable, farmworker background.

• Possess a current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First-Aid.

• Possess or be able to obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate a bus and successfully complete drug testing. (Level 1, 2, 3, & 4 Only)
