Dogs Playing for Life’s Canine Center Florida (CCF) is an advanced training and behavior facility for unowned dogs that are suffering behaviorally. The Medical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all medical care and concerns of these behaviorally challenged dogs. This position will participate and facilitate intake, daily monitoring and medical needs for dogs in our care and serve as the primary coordinator for veterinary appointments, treatments, and monthly wellness exams to ensure we are meeting our mission of prioritizing quality of life while also addressing both the behavioral and medical needs of each dog in our care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

-Act as the “go to” for any concerns related to the physical health of the dogs and ensuring such concerns are addressed

-Dispensing daily AM and PM oral meds

-Work with the Lead to ensure that non-oral meds have been administered by Handlers

-Perform and record all Intake Exams and Monthly Wellness Exams

-Assess dogs to determine if veterinarian care is needed

-Monitor dogs for responsiveness, or lack thereof, to treatments and notify veterinarian for stagnancy or worsening of condition

-Act as primary liaison between CCF and veterinarian(s)

-Work with Supervisor and Leads to schedule and facilitate veterinary visits

-Communicate with team about any special care/diet, pain trails, etc. during daily huddles

-Create medical profiles for new intakes and update medical memos and prescriptions in Shelterluv (shelter software) for CCF population

-Prepare medical folders for outgoing dogs including health certificate procurement when needed

-Inventory medical supplies on monthly basis

-Assist with capturing and uploading videos/photos of dogs in training

-Complete Medical Hand-Off on the last day of weekly shift

-Handling administrative requests from Operations Manager

-Maintain filing system including paper to digital conversion

-Assist with daily medical and behavioral memos

-Order office and kennel supplies

-Monthly inventory of office and kennel supplies

-Send general communication emails

-Run necessary errands (i.e., bank, PO Box, Post Office, etc.)

-Assist with the planning and execution of onsite events

-Other tasks as requested

Compensation

Salary range is $15-$18/hr and benefits include Paid Time Off and Health Insurance Expense Reimbursement Arrangement.

Job Qualifications

Office and animal kennel environment.

Potential exposure to high noise levels, behaviorally challenged animals and zoonotic diseases.

Exposure to all weather conditions.

Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Education and Experience:

Two years of experience at a veterinary hospital or similar

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic dog behavior and training principles.

Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills.

Able to work a flexible schedule.

Must hold a valid driver’s license and have an insurable driving record.

Working Conditions:

Physically demanding work, walking and standing all day.
