Job Description:

This is skilled and highly technical inspection work. An employee in this class works closely with professionals in the building industry, as well as the general public to insure safe, structurally sound, and sanitary building construction. Work involves planning, plan checking, and field inspections to require compliance with municipally adopted codes and laws, as well as laws mandated by County, State, and Federal governments.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; and

Two (2) years of experience as a Code Inspector I or equivalent; and

Demonstrates 5 years’ combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building code inspection corresponding to the certification category sought; or a combination of post secondary or technical education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 4 years, with at least 1 year of such total being experience in construction or building code inspections as determined by Human Resources.

Pertinent work and education shall be defined as follows:

For the mechanical discipline, pertinent work shall be in mechanical systems design, installation, maintenance, and repair work to include work in heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Pertinent education shall be in mechanical engineering or related field.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

Within one year of receipt of a Provisional Inspector License, possess and maintain an active Standard Inspector license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in the respective discipline.

Possession of an active Standard Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in the respective discipline is preferred, and may be required for some positions.
