Lower School Teacher - Spanish & PE
NewGate School in Sarasota, Florida, seeks a part-time lower school Spanish and PE teacher. This is a unique afternoon teaching role for a Spanish teacher who also loves to be outside leading games and skill development with children. NewGate School is a private school serving ages 14 months through high school with two campuses in beautiful Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch, Florida. NewGate School focuses on centering student voices and participation in the daily experience, using Montessori pedagogy and project-based engagement. Candidates must be attuned to the developmental stage of children aged 6-12 (grades 1-6) and ready to join a joyful, hard-working, and dedicated team. They should also be strong and practiced educators who plan diligently and are skilled in creative responses to support learners in a Montessori program. Responsibilities
Develop and implement a dynamic, student-centered Spanish curriculum that promotes language acquisition, cultural awareness, and critical thinking.
Create a joyful, nurturing and immersive learning environment that encourages curiosity and self-directed exploration of the Spanish language and culture.
Mentor and support students in developing language skills and social-emotional competencies, preparing them for transitions between educational stages.
Facilitate respectful, open communication between students and instructors, promoting positive relationships and a sense of community in the classroom.
Facilitate inclusive physical education experiences for students at a variety of interest and fitness levels.
Create PE experiences within two, mixed-age groupings of children (grades 1-3 and grades 4-6)
Be at all times joyful, compassionate, and proactive in work and relationships.
Maintain regular communication with lead classroom teachers to discuss student progress, language development, and learning goals.
Keep accurate records of student progress, including assessments, projects, and reports, reflecting growth in Spanish language proficiency.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in language education and Montessori pedagogy.
Stay informed on innovative language teaching methods, adapting lessons to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students.
Job Type and Location: Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week, on-site, in-person, non-exempt
Pay: $19.00/hour
Physical setting: Private school, campus in Sarasota, Florida
Schedule: Afternoons, Monday through Friday, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
