Elementary Teacher with Master's Degree - Specializing in MATH (St. Augustine/ Ponte Vedra)

Vacancy expired!

Salutations!

I am one of the "Highly Effective Teacher" recipients who previously was a fifth grade Elementary School teacher. I made the move to St. Augustine this summer with the full intention of continuing my teaching career however, I found the schools to be excellent in St. John's county, but the pay to be unacceptable for a single woman used to making a lot more money. Therefore, instead of working for next to nothing, I decided to get creative and came up with this idea.

I excel in teaching MATH (although I can teach all the subjects). I am looking for a group of parents who might be interested in hiring me in a small group setting to not only make math fun to learn, but to help your child surpass the other students in their class. The small group attention will allow me to cover math skills at a faster pace than is possible at school, therefore, your child will already be familiar and confident with the math skills that the teacher is teaching in the classroom. This will help with confidence as well as test scores and grades.

How will I accomplish this? Here's the plan.

1. For the first 15 minutes of the session I will start off with the homework that has been assigned by the classroom teacher. Clearly that will be the current skill that was just taught. I will reinforce or reteach that skill if necessary as we complete the homework.

2. Math builds upon itself. I'm a veteran teacher so all I have to do is look at the math problems currently taught to know what's coming next! However, I will also collaborate with your child's classroom math teacher and request copies of the textbooks etc. and upcoming lesson plans.

3. Bag of Tricks: It's important that your child understands the CONCEPT first but once they have that down pat there is no reason why they shouldn't be taught many of the tricks or short cuts that can solve the same math problem in a different way but much faster. This will be a tremendous benefit when it comes time to take standardized tests that are timed. Too often scores are lower than they should be because the students simply can't work as fast as the time permitted.

So if you have a child that struggles with math but just needs someone to teach it in a manner that works for your child and you know of other parents in the same boat, lets get a small group together of no more than 3-4 kids where I can teach what they are currently working on in school as well as move a step or two ahead so that your child is ahead of the class rather than struggling to keep up.

Suggested Tutoring: 2 - 3 days per week if your child is a grade level or more behind.

1-2 days per week if your child just needs additional support

Rate: $45/hour per child (group of 4)

$55/hour per child (group of 3)

$65/hour per child (group of 2)

$80/hour (private)

If interested, I can supply my resume, teaching certificate, and 2018-2019 Evaluation.

Kind regards,
