Job Order: A-26-19

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Works with an experienced Teacher to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children and families. The Infant Toddler Teacher 2 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

The Early Childhood Specialist provides guidance and direction for educational services and jointly, with the Center Coordinator, evaluates the job performance of the Infant Toddler Teacher 2.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties below are not intended to cover all the duties to be performed:

Work as part of a teaching team to:

1. Show warm, secure, affectionate relationships and interactions with each child to create a positive climate

(Note: Lifting, touching and holding a child is necessary.)

2. Use the HighScope curriculum to plan environments, activities, and daily routines for young children.

3. Use the HighScope curriculum for interaction strategies with infants and toddlers.

4. Observe, screen and assess young children to provide support for on-going developmental progress and achievement of RCMA School Readiness Goals.

5. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

6. Be an engaged partner with families.

7. Manage the classroom

8. Commit to professionalism and RCMA

9. Adherence to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral character and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

After initial hire, the employee must complete mandatory child care training in accordance with Florida Statutes and funding source requirements to retain eligibility to be employed in this position.

Within the first 30 days, an employee in this position must enroll and complete with exams:

• 8 hours- Health, Safety and Nutrition

Within the first 90 days, an employee in this position must enroll and complete with exams either option 1 or option 2:

Option 1 (strongly recommended)

• 4 hours-Identifying & Reporting Child Abuse Neglect

• 6 hours-Child Growth and Development

• 6 hours-Behavioral Observation and Screening

Option 2

• 2 hours- Health and Sanitation

• 2 hours- Safety of the Environment

• 1hour- Precautions in Transporting Children (if applicable)

• 2 hours- Child Safety and Prevention

• 1hour- Planning for Emergencies

• 2 hours- Prevention of Child Abuse and Supporting Children in Trauma

• 1 hour- One of the Supporting Social-Emotional Development Modules (Infant/Toddler, Preschool, Mixed-Age group)

Important Note:

o If employee selects Option 2, once Option 2 is completed, employee will still be required to take courses under Option 1 but within 12 months of starting the first course of Health, Safety, and Nutrition.

Completion of the required coursework and passing all exams of the 45 hours are required no later than 12 months from beginning of the Health, Safety, and Nutrition course.

EDUCATION: In order to meet the minimal education requirements, please provide ONE of the following:

• Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC) Birth - 5 years OR

• Infant Toddler National CDA (*)OR

• Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC) OR

• Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate (CCAC) OR

• Staff Credential Verification NECC OR

• 9 college credits in early childhood education and 3 months experience in the field (480 hours) in teaching infant and toddler age children.

Note: Further training appropriate to the age of children being served, may be required.

NOTE: Applicant can be placed into this position with a Preschool National CDA and must obtain an Infant Toddler National CDA within 260 days of accepting this position.

• Transcripts must be submitted to HR Department for evaluation and approval.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual preferred. Ability to read and understand written information. Ability to write simple notes and complete forms. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, families, and other employees of RCMA.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions.

REQUIRED RCMA CORE COMPETENCIES: Accountability, Flexibility, Communication, Commitment to personal and professional development.

Desired Qualifications:

• Member of community being served, and, when applicable, farm worker background.

• Possess a current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First-Aid.

• Possess or be able to obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate a bus and successfully complete drug testing
