Job Order: A-27-19

Purpose of position: Prepare and cook meals for children and staff by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:

1. Prepares quality nutritional meals for children and staff according to USDA guidelines. Prepares substitute items for children on restricted diets. Follows centralized menus. Uses RCMA Food Usage Chart book (Food Buying Guide) preparing and cooking amounts.

2. Plans according to the weekly menu and takes inventory before placing food orders. Purchases and maintains adequate stock of food and kitchen supplies for the center.

3. Receives goods and compares against delivery invoice. Checks goods for freshness, quality, and condition. Marks and dates goods received using the FIFO method.

4. Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry, and storage areas. Kitchen is to be kept clean, dishes washed, refrigerator, freezer and stoves clean. Ensures all equipment is in proper working condition. Utilizes the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) to follow health department regulations.

5. Provides mentoring and training to new cooks. Provides ongoing communication about new cooks performance to center coordinator (if applicable).

6. Maintains kitchen records in accordance with RCMA procedures and the USDA Child Care Food Program regulations and policies.

7. Reports all accidents/incidents Immediately to center coordinator as required by RCMAs insurances.

8. Prepares meals for special events or occasions as requested.

9. Adherence to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements

NOTE: Regular work attendance is necessary to perform the essential duties.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the supervision of the Center Coordinator. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral character and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. If School Readiness, DCF 45 hours would be required if employee would work directly with children or is unsupervised with children.

EXPERIENCE: Experience in preparing food for large groups.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, with diverse cultural, race and ethnic groups or individuals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

REQUIRED RCMA CORE COMPETENCIES: Accountability, Flexibility, Communication, Commitment to personal and professional development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to have physical ability to use hands and finger coordination (use kitchen tools and utensils). Lifting up to 25 lbs is occasionally required.

OTHER: Must be age 21 or older and have or be able to obtain a Florida Drivers License and must have dependable transportation.
