Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
Project Management certification is required.

Require Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field;
Experience in architecting complex IT system;
Excellent technical, analytical, skills;
Project management skills;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
Good leadership and motivational skills; and
Experience in modeling and graphic representations.

Prefered Qualifications:
The Department prefers the candidate has the following experience, skills, and/or knowledge for this position:
Experience in modernizing & migrating applications from legacy systems;
Experience in architecting optimal solutions for migrating applications to the cloud, preferably Azure or Amazon Web Service (AWS);
Experience in containerization of applications;
Building application integrations using APIs; and
Experience in building integrations between applications on different hardware platforms.

Scope of work
The Applications Architect will serve as the principal coordinator of all technical aspects of integrated solution performing the following:
Serve as a technical liaison between business users, FDC and vendor technical teams;
Provide hands-on leadership for design of re-engineered processes;
Provide periodic reports to internal and external stakeholders on compliance of vendor design with standards;
Maintain all technical architectural artifacts in a shared repository, properly versioned maintaining history;
Participate in Business Requirements gathering sessions (JADs);
Lead development of business process improvement recommendations; and
Work independently as part of a larger cross-functional team.

General Experience Expectations:
Responsibilities of the Technical Architect (TA) include but not limited to the following:
Creating the technical architecture documents of all the interacting applications in the current integrated solution, depicting applications, interfaces, and information flow currently in place;
Documenting the current architectural standards followed by the mainframe, web, and mobile solutions currently in place;
Creating optimized, flexible, and sustainable standard operating environment documents for various types of applications (web-based, mobile, etc.) and infrastructure components (compute resources, connectivity components) to minimize the spread of tools and environments;
Creating the architectural standards for the technologies to be used in the to-be solution for Florida Department of Corrections (Department) infrastructure and security requirement compliance;
Creating the technical architecture documents for the interacting applications in the to-be integrated solution, depicting the Department's applications, modernized legacy system from a vendor, interfaces, and information flow;
Creating methods for compliance architecture, such as data storage, metadata management, and change control. Determining and implementing build versus buy strategies, mentor personnel, and views of the overall business strategy;
Evaluating internal functions, business development strategies, and IT processes and suggesting improvements to optimize business workflows;
Creating business architecture models to reflect the Department's strategies and goals and creating and implementing the Department's business units' visions and goals;
Be involved in every stage of discovery, development, and implementation of an optimal architecture for the modernized legacy system;
Validating and verifying compliance of vendor solution with the Department;
Evaluating systems to ensure an overall robustness and determine if there are any discrepancies and vulnerabilities;
Review, create and maintain concurrency of architecture documents ensuring matching with the system implemented;
Oversee, review, and ensure that the Vendor's solution design is in compliance with the Department's standard operating environments considering all facets of IT infrastructure;
Setting the direction and approach for integrating information applications and programs;
Cataloging, developing, coordinating, communicating, and maintaining the architectural models and relevant documentation;
Enforcing the Department's overall enterprise architecture models, representations, capabilities, and components to meet the Department's business and technology activities;
Evaluating the vendor's solutions to reduce the total cost of ownership of the new system considering development and operational costs in IT and the business units;
Identifying needs, and organizing training for existing legacy system staff to improve staff's knowledge and skills required to manage the modernized system;
Providing business architecture and systems processing guidance. Ensuring the efficiency, security, and support of the Department's goals; and
Work closely with the Department's Information Security Manager to ensure all security requirements are met or exceeded.
