Mate needed for Commercial Grouper Boat (Clearwater)

Vacancy expired!

Commercial Grouper boat Capitan looking for a highly motivated deckhand/mate preferably with experience on the water, has a passion for fishing, takes pride in his work & doesn't get home sick.Â

You need to be able to follow orders well, be quick on your toes, and be a fast learner.

You need basic understanding of Marlinspike Seamanship, Marine navigation for day & night, be efficient @ tying rigs, and be a good multitasker.

We will be offshore for 10-14 days straight @ a time, the hours are long, and we get very early starts offshore each day. Were on the move before sunrise so you need to be able to wake up early every morning, regardless of how many hrs you slept

All I need you to bring to the table is experience & an open mind if you want to make a carrier out of this profession & climb the ladder then you should show interest & give it your all. If your just looking for part time work till something better comes along. We are not that boat, look elsewhere.

I will be investing my time & money into you, therefore I need someone that plans to stay the duration, be loyal & earn his stripes with me.

These are the following things I will not tolerate on my boat:

Never challenge me.

The Capitan is always right no matter what. So if you have a problem with authority don't waste my time.

This is a clean boat, so if you have a drug problem or drinking problem don't bother.

You will be drug tested randomly during the year & before hire.

No smoking on the boat. Vape pen or Dip only.

If you can't pass a background check or can't give me a good explanation as to why you was arrested in the past, then look elsewhere for employment.

If you don't have reliable transportation, are not a reliable person, Don't have a valid ID or are late to the dock for any reason, and like to make excuses Don't bother boarding the boat, because I don't give 2nd chances on that one. It cost me $1500 to prepare for a trip so be on time everytime.

Disrespect to the Capitan or fellow crew will not be tolerated & you will be fired on the spot if an argument erupts on my boat.

You need to understand that what we do out there is serious business, it is not safe by any means & not for everyone. We will be a long ways away from home for a long time. We depend on each other out there for survival & need to function as a team @ all times.

The work we do is very strenuous and very demanding and the work only gets harder as we get closer to the end of the trip.

This is a marathon not a sprint so you should be in shape, be fast & be able to lift alot of weight around the boat in bad conditions throughout the trip & also have good balance because we do fish in high seas 4-8 ft

This job is more mental then physical &Â is a high stress environment you need to be able to adapt quickly & stay focused.

Your pay is based off a % of the catch & experience will dictate what your % is going to be. But you will start @ base deckhand pay until you have proven yourself to me. You may have worked on alot of other boats in the past, but you haven't worked on mine so prepare yourself for the un-expected.

This boat practices catch & release techniques, our discard mortality rate is extremely low (By-catch)

We are not a long line boat. !

We do not fish like them, and they do not fish like us.

We use precision & accuracy to catch our fish.

We also do everything by the book because future fish populations depend on operations like ours for the species to flourish & be sustainable for our future generations to catch & enjoy.

We also work closely with NOAA to collect valuable data about Gulf Species so that ultimately commercial fisherman & weekend anglers alike will benefit from the collection of this data & better understand what the fish population in the Gulf of Mexico is really doing, and how it effects & determines seasons, their openings & their lengths.

Our vessel is inspected once a yr by a USCG Inspector, our safety equipment & Viking life raft is inspected annually as well.

The vessel you will be working on is a 34' Defender hull aka Crusader, that has a very reliable 3208 CAT motor in her.

She is very sea worthy & was recently dry docked for hull inspection, wheel & rudder inspection, bottom was recoated & is ready for action.

If you think you meet all the requirements in this listing & understand them completely, then I wanna hear from you.

If not or your not sure about any of the things I mentioned & plan on winging it, then I suggest you consider another boat

I get contacted by alot of people for this position, I've heard it all, and seen it all.

Don't BS me. Be straight, be honest, be yourself. Don't waste our time if your not 100% sure that your the Mate I'm looking for then please don't contact me.

No softies, No 1/2 stepper's, No wanna be's, and No dreamers please.

This is the real deal guys.

The quality of our fish is 2nd to none. We sell to some of the most reputable buyers in Clearwater.

I'm fair to everyone, I treat my crew very well and will go out of my way to help them in anyway I possibly can.

Remember I'm looking for loyalty, respect, patients & motivation long term.

All others need not apply. !

You can reach me @ the following number:

813. 841. 1975

If it's after 11 pm don't call. I prefer text.

Thank you
