We have IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for (4) LEADOUTS and DOG HANDLERS. Seeking team-players with a flexible work schedule (nights, weekends and holidays). Reliable transportation a must due to public transit may not be running for the late shift. Must be able to pass a drug test and have a clean criminal background to qualify for a State of Florida Para-mutuel Racing License. Felony violations will automatically disqualify you.
LEADOUT Overview:
Walk Greyhounds out for official races.
Essential Functions:
MUST be able to jog approximately 100 yards at a moderate pace
Maintain proper care of the Greyhounds when leading them from the paddock area, down the track, to the starting box for their appointed race.
Secondary Functions:
Ensure that each dog has the racing blanket, leash and muzzle on correctly
Perform other duties as assigned by Management
DOG HANDLER Overview
Remove Greyhounds from kennels, walks Greyhounds prior to official race providing exercise and warming muscles. Assisting State Of Florida Officials with capturing a urine sample of random Greyhounds.
Essential Functions:
Maintain proper care and control of the Greyhounds when leading them around in the Jenny Pit prior to official race.
Sit with Greyhounds on viewing stand prior to entering the track.
Secondary Functions:
Ensure that each dog has the racing blanket, leash and muzzle on correctly
Assist Kennel Master with cleaning dog and kennel if necessary
Perform other duties as assigned by Management
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR DOG HANDLERS AND LEADOUTS:
Meet all regulations pertaining to health, safety and personal hygiene in accordance with City, State, and Federal laws
Comply with Company / Department policies, including attendance
Must not present a direct threat to health, safety or the welfare of fellow employees or others
Treat all guests, vendors and employees with courtesy, respect, fairness and consistency
Professional in appearance, grooming and behavior
Respond in a timely manner to all guests and employees
Mandatory Pari-Mutuel license to comply with the State of Florida, Department of Professional Regulations
MACHINE / EQUIPMENT / TOOLS USED:
Sturdy running shoes
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
Dog handling skills
Ability to interpret and complete all communications received and submitted
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time up to 5 hours.
Physically fit is essential, must be able to lift up to 90 lbs greyhound chest height without injuring the greyhound or yourself.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to outdoor elements 4.5 to 5 hours each shift
Consistent walking, climbing, squatting, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching
Frequent chest high lifting minimum of 50lbs
Frequent pulling, minimum 50 lbs
