Start-up insurance division of an established company seeks a Software Engineering Director (reporting to CIO) for a direct hire position to be located in West Palm Beach FL area (St. Petersburg is a second option.) Be a part of building the technology. Focus will be on Digital, Customer experience, Cloud etc. Should come from a Dev Ops background. Must have expertise in a similar situation and ideally with insurance/financial services experience.

The Software Development Director oversees the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining software applications according to business needs. They establish and monitor policies and procedures that produce high-quality software product and service. The Software Development Director has ownership of development environments across all products.The Software Development Director will work closely with the CIO to lead the technology development strategy and execution for the enterprise while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal IT standards, policies, and procedures.Responsibilities

  • : Define and translate end to end enterprise and platform solution architecture working with both product management and technology teams - Application Design, Integration Services, Security.
  • : Evaluate the existing architecture, technical landscape and build a platform with a world-class architecture that emphasizes security, resilience, and extensibility.
  • : Ensure all application design maintains application security, data security, and data integrity.
  • : Ensure adherence to continuous improvement practices as required to meet quality and time to market imperatives.
  • : Lead software development team comprised of technical leads working with on-premises, near-shore, or off-shore development resources.
  • : Establish hiring bar for technology managers and individual contributors.
  • : Expertise in the process and tools necessary for a solid and secure Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline with appropriate segregation of duties.
  • : Participate in interviewing as well as hiring final decisions.
  • : Provide operational directions and continuous business process improvement to meet changing business needs.
  • : Identify, evaluate, and select new and emerging technologies that can be assimilated within the company and significantly improve competitiveness.
  • : Attract and hire world class talent and build high performance teams.
  • : Ensure appropriate controls are in place to meet or exceed regulatory, compliance, and security requirements.
  • Skills
  • : Deep technical understanding of cloud-native development, programming languages and algorithms, and optimization.
  • : Highly experienced in the architecture of UI, server side, database, integration, and API based solutions.
  • : Exceptionally strong leadership skills managing teams mixed with on-premises, near-shore, and off-shore resources across multiple time zones.
  • : Experience and understanding of agile methodology and how the process interacts in an overarching devops practice.
  • : Knowledge of all development operations such as coding standards, security concerns, change management, implementation management and regulatory control environments.
  • : Significant experience with various tools in the overall development process such as Source Code control systems, IDEs, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, and general agile methodology facilitation tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • : Demonstrated ability to take ownership and make technical decisions on software development projects.
  • : Technical knowledge in modern distributed software architecture and AWS platforms and services.
  • : An entrepreneurial attitude and full understanding of what it takes to operate in a very dynamic, fast-paced and results oriented environment.
