POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for conducting research using established SOPs for standard molecular cloning, protein expression, purification, affinity chromatography, and biochemical assays. Assays include Western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry, and Bio-Layer Interferometry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned.

• Participates in ongoing experiments and assists senior scientists with molecular biology, protein expression, purification, and assays as needed

• Oversees and completes research projects as determined by senior scientists, and optimizes assays and other techniques

• Generates and analyzes data produced from a wide variety of laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation

• Maintains data and protocols in a highly organized manner for future reference

• Provides reports, tech transfer documents, scientific presentations, and SOPs as needed for publication in technical journals, presentation to regulatory or grant-making agencies, or use in further research activities

• Communicates results, technical issues, and risks to the team and propose solutions and mitigation strategies

• Provides technical expertise in planning, improving, and developing future directions for research and implementing new technology/innovations

• Works cross-functionally with R&D and manufacturing to ensure technical developments support commercial product quality

• Presents individual research or the work of the company at professional conferences

• Trains/mentors entry-level research technicians on lab techniques and procedures as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field and (2) years laboratory experience OR Bachelor's degree in cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field and (4) years laboratory experience in a research setting OR any equivalent experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A background in glycobiology is highly desired in addition to varying levels of experience with standard molecular biology, protein expression, and biochemical techniques. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail. Although the candidate must work well in team settings, s/he must be able to work independently and meet project timelines.

LOCATION & TRAVEL: The position is based at the company headquarters in Athens, GA during normal business hours and occasional travel to conferences and business meetings is expected.
