The Operational Analytics team provides strategic insight through first understanding business processes and second leveraging data and analytics to drive continuous improvement efforts. The Analytics Specialist will be asked to work closely with leaders to develop creative solutions to current business challenges. We are looking for data curious individuals that seek to understand process and can connect with our business partners to leverage data and drive improvement. A successful Analytics Specialist can distill large and complex data sets into easily digestible visual stories. Our team harnesses Tableau to distribute continuously updated data to teams in the field allowing end-users to retrieve the data they need on an ad-hoc basis.

Data has transformed the way Delta operates. The Operational Analytics team is the core of the data strategy, focused on designing the future data environment. The team's mission is to democratize data building and maintain a data structure that facilitates analysis efforts, KPI creation, Monthly Performance Reporting (MPR), report automation, and front-line analysis tools. You'll be empowered to constantly innovate data architecture to enable more complex analytic techniques like machine learning. For example, you may be asked to create executive reporting and interactive dashboard tools that monitor Delta's flight attendant satisfaction scores, taking the project from source data curation to delivering recommendations to front-line leaders.

The Analytics Specialist will

  • Locate and extract data from a variety of sources for use in analysis, models and reporting
  • Cleaning and curating datasets by researching new data sources and collaborating with other business units to determine the best source for the data
  • Wrangling large datasets using Python, SQL, etc. to identify opportunities and understand performance
  • Building and handling multisource data sets to support department initiatives in a timely manner
  • Support and maintain team ETL pipelines to ensure optimized and accurate outputs
  • Building reporting and dashboards that provide leaders insight into the operation
  • Leverage emerging technologies and identify efficient and meaningful ways to communicate data and analysis in order to satisfy divisional needs
  • Aggregate views of data sources into meaningful hierarchies
  • Develop automated Tableau reports and analyses with direction from other senior members on the team
  • Create insightful executive-level dashboards using data visualization tools
  • Support process improvement and project management engagements for both individual business units and cross-divisional initiatives
  • Present findings to Operational Analytics leaders using visual story telling
  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Business/Management, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, or other relevant quantitative field including relevant Analytics Certificate and 3 to 5 years of related experience required
  • High School diploma, GED or High School Equivalency
  • Experience with some or all the following: Python, SAS, AWS, R, Unix command line and Tableau
  • Advanced level ability to manipulate data using programing language and to create complex queries
  • Must be comfortable working in group and individual settings.
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • 3 years' work experience in analysis, information science, data visualization and storytelling, or other relevant quantitative field strongly preferred
  • Previous experience identifying, cleaning, and structuring new data sources preferred
  • Advanced level ability to manage a reporting database environment, troubleshoot, and automate reporting within Teradata/AWS, SQL, SAS or Python preferred
