The successful candidates serve as an engineer within the TechOps Engineering organization. The tasks associated with this role are specific to the engineering group and include, but are not limited to, the following:

Fleet Engineering

Fleet Engineering provides Delta's Compliance and Safety for every aircraft in Delta's fleet. Fleet engineers are responsible for creating engineering documentation to support compliance and safety FAA directives, updating configuration control publications (Airbus, Boeing or Vendor) and support reliability initiatives through data analysis to support fleet metrics (Delays, Cancelations, Aircraft Out-of-Service & Operational Impact events).

Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

Discipline Focus (Structures, Systems, Avionics)

  • Provide aircraft engineering support to a variety of internal customers and outside suppliers to support solutions for long term safety/reliability/cost
  • Review, recommend, and implement manufacturers' service bulletins and other correspondence to affected fleets
  • Review data and recommend/implement changes as required to improve aircraft safety, reliability and capability
  • Support shop, hangar and line maintenance customers in troubleshooting and accomplishing Engineering projects including on-sight verification of project work instructions (Mock-Ups)
  • Maintain compliance with applicable FAA regulations and Delta's Technical Operations Policy and Procedures (TOPP)
  • Physically visit hangar, line, shop, planning and other support groups to gain details necessary to complete projects while supporting various briefings


Fleet/Avionics Focus

  • Support operational issues encountered by maintenance customers which may be related to configuration, alternate maintenance procedures, and parts interchangeability
  • Support our Engineering Technical Services team with investigating ODI events to develop and implementing solutions to prevent future ODI events
  • Use safety risk management tools and supporting safety risk assessments to drive actions to improve safety of various fleet types
  • Drive improvements to the reliability and safety by partnering with external suppliers and internal customers
  • Support entry into service of new aircraft to Delta's fleet by coordinating and driving all engineering activities among multiple engineering groups
  • Communicate fleet initiatives with our internal partners and leaders
  • Stay current on fleet issues driving key performance metrics within Delta, and in the worldwide fleet

Propulsion Engineering

Propulsion Engineers provide on-wing and off-wing support for Delta and MRO Customer engine fleets. On-wing engineers within Propulsion Engineering monitor reliability trends on-wing as well as ensure our configurations conform to specifications. Workscope engineers prescribe the optimum level of work for engine inductions, authorize module level repairs and investigate engine failures for a wide variety of Delta and Customer engine fleets.

Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

On-wing Support

  • Implement regulatory requirements for assigned fleet including Airworthiness Directives and FARs
  • Manage on-wing reliability for Delta or Customer engine fleets
  • Establish configuration requirements for Delta's engine fleets and manages associated configuration control standards
  • Investigate engine performance drivers, develops mitigation strategies and communicates findings with OEM's and leadership
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities for on-wing LRU maintenance drivers, including PMA & DER repair solutions


Workscope and Shop Support

  • Author and manage engine shop visit workscopes for Delta and OEM/MRO customers
  • Provide technical support for job stops and production issues within assigned engine shop
  • Generate investigation workscopes for unscheduled engine removals and identifies failure root cause
  • Develop engineering authorizations and repair documents for DAL & MRO engines, and coordinates engineering approvals with the respective OEM or Customer representatives
  • Support engine removal planning and development of engine shop visit costing models
  • Collaborate with Delta TechOps MRO and Engine Maintenance teams to improve profitability and efficiency of engine work

Component Engineering - Mechanical, Avionics, Landing Gear and ACSS (Aircraft Composite and Sheet Metal Shops)

Component Engineering provides support for Delta's internal repair shops and external vendors. All parts that are removed from an aircraft and require repair, aside from engines and some interiors items, are worked by this team. Subject areas include composites, sheet metal, avionics, landing gear, mechanical systems such as pneumatics and hydraulics, galley and flight deck equipment and several other areas.

Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical production support including responding to engineering related Job stops, repair development, CMM technical content, alternate testing and tooling methodologies for both DAL and MRO customers
  • Engage in cost reduction activities including the development of CI, PII, PMA and OOPP solutions
  • Interface with OEMs and partner repair stations to gain knowledge/data and ensure proper execution of DAL requirements
  • Support other organizations as technical experts on Components including: Fleet and Propulsion Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Operations, and Planning

Interiors Engineering - Cabin Avionics and Design

The Interiors Engineering department implements new passenger cabins and reconfigures existing cabins in Delta's aircraft fleet through the development and deployment of engineering solutions. The department supports the reconfiguration of Delta's cabins as an effort to improve our passengers' overall experience. Within Interiors Engineering, the department is comprised of 2 teams: Cabin Avionics and Cabin Design.

Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Define scope for cabin related designs, integrations, installations, and certifications of cabin components and systems, with respect to the interior, on all aircraft of Delta's fleet. This intern helps support initiatives of corporate strategies
  • Coordinate with OEMs, suppliers/vendors, modification/repair sites, in conjunction with internal and external customers supporting the design and development of cabin reconfigurations, new product development, and/or new aircraft specifications
  • Collect information, organize documents, and participate in design review meetings to support the development of Engineering Authorizations for prior-to-service or cabin retrofit projects; support prototype and production installations on remaining aircraft in the program

Tooling Design

The Tooling Design department utilizes CAD Software to develop new tools to aid in the implementation various repairs across Delta's Technical Operations.

Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the manufacture of various tooling fixtures, jigs, etc., required to support the repair of aircraft, engines, and components
  • Work directly with maintenance personnel identifying tooling needs
  • Design effective solutions using various CAD design packages
  • Work with internal and external manufacturing resources to manufacture applicable tooling for approved use

  • Candidates for this position should have at minimum aBachelor'sdegree in Engineering
