Qualifications

Requires 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.

Qualifications Required:

5+ years (or 3+ years with an advanced degree) of experience with demographic and vector GIS analysis including proximity, overlay, and buffer tools: geocoding, network analysis, time-series analysis, cartography, data management, map projections, and other GIS-related fields

Knowledge and experience with the ESRI ArcGIS suite of GIS products and extensions, including but not limited to ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online

Experience with Quantum GIS (qgis.org), R/R-shiny, Leaflet, SQL, Python, and other GIS analysis, GIS data manipulation, and map production tools

Ability to work independently or as a member of a team to create thematic maps

Familiarity with software products, such as Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Google (Maps, Google Earth), and GPS technology, as well as Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education:

BS/BA in Public Health, Computer Science, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related field

Responsibilities

Peraton is immediately seeking a GIS Analyst to support the Geospatial Research, Analysis and Services Program (GRASP), which is a program within the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). GRASP is responsible for geospatial analysis, research, and technology as applied to diverse public health domains including environmental health, site-specific exposure, infectious and chronic disease, injury, and emergency preparedness and response. GRASP works with ATSDR, other Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) centers/institutes/offices, state/local health organizations, other federal agencies, international governments, academia, and advocacy groups.

The GIS Analyst will be required to:

Perform GIS technical and analytical tasks such as, analyzing, summarizing, and georeferencing datasets and scientific data contained within information systems and databases related to public health.

Produce static and dynamic map products using established cartographic protocols and standards.

Process, alter, and manipulate GIS data in preparation for analysis, visualization, desktop automation, and systems integration and provide recommendations to GRASP government staff regarding use of geospatial methods/techniques and the fitness of GIS datasets for particular purposes.

Participate in oral and written communications, as needed, to interface with the diverse and multi-disciplinary GRASP staff to obtain clarity in requirements and communicate complex GIS science and technology concepts to GRASP staff and CDC/ATSDR staff who collaborate with GRASP on various projects.
