Job Description

What Would You Do? The Specifics

  • Guides management on administering progressive discipline by reviewing and editing associate’s past discipline, giving recommendations and assigning training.
  • Conducts thorough investigations into a variety of allegations including falsification of company records, harassment, discrimination, theft, etc.
  • Guides management on appropriate interpretation of organizational policy and procedures in the areas of associate/management issues.
  • Supports positive associate relations and constructive employer-associate relationships.
  • Partners with Workers’ Compensation Coordinator to aid in the coordination of workers’ compensation cases involving employee relations’ issues.
  • Collaborates with the Unemployment Coordinator in the gathering of information for unemployment claims when necessary.
  • Partners with the Disability Specialist and Leave of Absence Coordinator in the gathering of information to ensure ADA compliance and necessary workplace accommodations.
  • Works with the Employment Services Specialist to aid in the gathering of termination information when necessary.
  • Assists the Legal department in gathering information for the defense of EEO complaints and lawsuits.
  • Coordinates Loss Prevention investigations sometimes with the Company’s Financial Auditor when theft is uncovered.
  • Provides advice and recommendations while being a “direct relationship” advocate.
  • Thoroughly documents Employee Relations issues within NVI’s systems such as Ultipro (HRIS system) and HR Acuity (Case Management system).
  • Researches laws, programs, policies, etc. for HR-Ops group and recommends changes, implementations and courses of action, etc.
  • Provides upper-level management with status updates on prominent cases and performance feedback on those interacted with during the course of business.
  • Creates and revises training communications for management on various HR topics such as performance management, progressive discipline, handling harassment, and other topics that will aid inconsistency, compliance, and risk-reduction.
  • Successfully completes training programs on topics of interest to ER management including current HR trends, relevant computer software, customer service, etc.
  • Participates in department activities such as daily Employee Relations reviews, monthly department meetings, and cross-training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience.
  • 3+ years of Employee Relations experience.
  • Experience with applying a wide variety of HR law.
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Case Management software, HR Equity preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS systems preferred.
  • Ability to analyze facts, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare written reports, correspondences,and presentation to leadership.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
