Job Description for Torch Cutting
Definition: Torch cutting is the process for cutting metal using an apparatus that produces a very hot flame through the combustion of gases.
Duties/Tasks: Use cutting equipment (oxy/propane torch) to reduce the size of the steel and other recyclable materials to a more manageable size. The work is dirty and has the potential for exposures to:
Aerosolized particles
Back strain
Burns
Explosive atmosphere
Falling heavy objects
Fire
Flammable gases or vapors
Hazardous fumes
Hot/cold environments
Lifting and moving heavy objects (50 lbs)
Oil and hydraulic fluids
Repetitive motion injuries
Sharp objects/edges
Physical Requirements:
Torch cutting requires physical exertion, is repetitious and requires constant attention to the work.
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. Must be able to stand, bend, stretch.
Must be able to work in inclement weather and temperature extremes
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing
Employees must successfully complete a Medical Evaluation and be fit tested in order to wear a 3M model # 6200 series half-face respirator. Employees will be required to participate in a medical surveillance program as needed.
