Maui Bees seeking a farmhand (work-trade room and board plus stipend)

>>>Please keep in mind this position is only available for someone who wants to work-trade to have free room and board living on the property (plus a weekly stipend)<<<

Maui Bees is a picturesque regenerative farm in Kula, where we have beautiful gardens, orchards, chickens, a cow, three goats, and not to mention bees and a full honey operation!

This means there is a lot of physical work involving growing organic produce, harvesting, weeding (and lots of it!), landscape work, caring for livestock and milking goats, and helping with the bees whether it’s during honey harvest or jarring and packaging honey. There will be a meeting each morning to go over assigned tasks for the day, but each day will vary in terms of unique tasks and creative problem solving.

A typical day may look like this:

———————————————

7:30-8:30 - morning weeding meeting

8:30- 9:30 - harvest in gardens and orchard, or milking goats if you have been trained and it is your day to do so.

9:30-12:00 - garden work: maintaining beds, seed starts. Grounds keeping. Whatever the farm manager needs help with. If it’s honey harvest season everyone will team up and go to the bee yards and bring back the hives to extract honey, then jar and package.

12:00-1:00 - lunch time. If it’s your turn for making lunch, you may have started making lunch around 11:00 to be ready for service by 12:00.

1:00-3:30 - chicken chores if it’s your day, garden work, fruit harvest, weeding, pruning, mulching, compost maintenance, bring chickens food scraps from kitchen. Whatever the farm may need, the farm manager will help find what needs to be done.

3:30 - end of work for the day!

We also have a small Farmstand/cafe (very occasionally we may need help here as well), where we sell as much if this as possible, as well as make coffee drinks and sell fresh home made pastries. Speaking of which, if you have baking experience, we need you! We have an impressive commercial kitchen equipped with all the tools you would ever need, capable of lots of culinary output, and we would love some help in there as well.

This is a work-trade only position. 35 hours of work a week provides you with with free housing (cute and private quarters, with Wi-Fi and utilities included), free organic farm fresh food from our garden, with the basic (organic) staples provided, and a weekly stipend of $300 a week. Hot organic lunch is prepared and provided daily at our staff lunch during the work week. This is open to someone who is comfortable with communal living, and ideally has experience with any of the above farm tasks, and a willingness to learn. Because this is a full time job, people planning on keeping other work commitments outside of this job do not typically fit this position/lifestyle. We ask for a 3 month commitment to start, with an initial 2 week trial period to see if it’s a good fit all around, and if so, option to stay indefinitely!

If this sounds like a good fit for you or anyone you know, please reach out.

Mahalo,

Beau
