Job Summary:

Udder Health Systems is a growing, progressive animal health, milk quality and food safety services company. UHS provides laboratory testing and microbiology diagnostic products and services to both the dairy farm community and food processors. We currently have 1-2 openings in our Jerome, Idaho location for a Laboratory Analyst, focusing on milk quality, mastitis diagnostic testing and food pathogen testing.

Responsibilities & Duties:

In a laboratory environment, this position is responsible for receiving milk and food samples, plating the samples, setting up required food tests per specific SOPs, reading results and maintaining records of results. The Analyst reads the plates, identifies the bacteria cultured using basic principles of microbiology and communicates the results as directed. The Lab Analyst must follow established lab protocols and procedures (following ISO:17025 standards) involving sanitation and cleanliness, sample plating, inventory control and customer service. This position works in close proximity to other Lab Analysts.

The Lab Analyst may occasionally be asked to travel to local dairies to pick up milk samples or assist in obtaining herd milk samples for testing, and must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Weekend work may be required as part of the regular work schedule.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires an associates degree, with preference given to Bachelor of Science degree in one of the life sciences such as dairy science, food science, animal science, or microbiology. Candidates with education and/or experience in dairy farm exposure, milk laboratory training or food laboratory training will be given preference. Familiarity with general microbiological principles and good laboratory practices is desirable. Education or experience with MS Office and good oral and written communication skills are desired. The selected candidate will have a demonstrated strong attention to detail, follow through and initiative. We will consider recent graduates and entry level candidates with minimum requirements. The position requires the ability to pass an internal training course on process, procedures and mastitis in cows, usually within the first 90 days.
