Application ArchitectJob no: 502086 Work type: Regular Full-Time Location: Chicago – 55 East Monroe Street, IL Capability Area: IT Development and Infrastructure JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for functioning as a senior hands-on developer and team lead for software development projects and for providing technical leadership in the design, implementation and quality of sophisticated enterprise application software solutions to support new business development initiatives and traditional data collection and management projects. DEPARTMENT: Information Technology NORC's Information Technology program provides technology services to our staff and clients. Given the critical role technology plays in our day-to-day lives, we are committed to providing professional, high-quality solutions in order to further our collective goal of advancing social science research.​ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide technical oversight and developing standards, guidelines and processes for application systems.

Lead teams of 2 to 5 members. Perform a leadership role for reviewing the work and coaching less experienced members of the team

Translate business requirements into well-designed applications while balancing user and business/project needs, technical competencies, IT industry developments, corporate strategy, time and budget constraints, and resource availability

Lead/review all IT aspects of a project, including requirements, design, implementation, deployment/delivery and support; reviewing the software design and code development of key architectural components

Prepare resource estimates; interacting with architects from the Requirements/Testing, Development and Infrastructure teams

Work closely with the Project Director and Project Manager to develop plans, schedules, and priorities; document solution architectures/designs; communicate with them using technical diagrams (UML, ERD); and contribute to decisions on project software/infrastructure needs, including the evaluation of server technologies, languages/platforms; and frameworks

Assist in technical planning and assessing cost, risk, scalability and technical feasibility of data management solutions

Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent software development experience in Information Technology or related field

Basic knowledge of at least one commonly used programming

language

Basic knowledge of all phases of software development, including

requirements, design, implementation, support and the product release cycles

Good analytical skills, good written and verbal communication,

programming, testing

Experience in data collection enterprise solutions

Ability to balance workload and in determining the means for accomplishing assignments, ability to work independently on some tasks, process driven approach to work and an ability to work under time pressure and in a dynamic environment

Minimum of 8 years relevant experience with .NET/Java and SQL programming

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical staff.

Working knowledge of .NET/Java, Azure, Tomcat, JavaScript, HTML, and SQL. Also helpful is a familiarity with customer service and technologies such as AWS, MSSQL, Oracle, Git/GitHub, open source projects

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is 121,210 –181,815.

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
