Job Title:Grant Specialist 1 Pre & Post AwardDepartment:RES A Family MedicineShift:1stFull/Part:Active Regular FT (72 to 80 hours per pay period)Specialty:GrantsJob Number:2022-4003Job Description:Grant Specialist 1 Pre and Post-AwardJob Summary :The Grant Specialist 1 Pre and Post-Award coordinates and oversees the grant administration process, including proposal submissions and post-award financial monitoring for sponsored research which may include basic, translational, and/or clinical. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Job Responsibilities:Provides overall pre and post-award administration, which includes services related to proposal identification, development, budgeting, and routing as well as financial-based analytical services related to award set up, hiring, budgeting, spending, reporting, and closeout.

Facilitates sponsored award proposal protocols and post-award requirements in accordance with RUMC and sponsor regulations by working closely with SPA and/or fund accounting.

Works with faculty on the comprehensive review of pre-award activities and submissions into the Rush Research Portal and ensures submissions are timely and accurate.

Assists with activities related to incoming and outgoing sub-awards/contracts and may include independent contractor and consulting agreements.

Reviews contract and other award documentation to determine budget, invoicing schedule, restrictions, and other pertinent information.

Reviews and manages sub-award agreements to ensure sub-award recipients and costs are accurately monitored and complies with sponsor terms and government regulations.

Helps review expenditures for allow ability, allocability, reasonableness, and compliance with RUMC, sponsor, and government policies and regulations.

Coordinates no-cost extensions and carryover requests and documentation for awards.

Assists with the creation and ongoing maintenance of Rush departmental operating budgets.

Maintains various databases, record keeping systems, and all applicable project files to ensure program records are up to date, altering department leadership of any abnormalities.

Reviews and assists in the preparation of detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts, and projections reflecting interrelationships of sponsored award data and provides financial tracking and fiscal control.

Assists with data gathering, initial analysis, and interpretation for fiscal research information.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Job Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required.

1-3 years of work-related grants and contracts experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.

Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity.

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent attention to detail, strong project management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Position requires professionalism, diplomacy, and a high degree of judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to work on a team.

Ability to work within strict deadlines, under pressure, and to prioritize.

Analytical ability required.

Ability to use statistical concepts with regard to financial and budgetary procedures.

Preferred Job Qualifications:Knowledge of accounting functions preferred.
