Summary
The Senior System Administrator is a hands-on IT leader with expert level IT experience in a medium sized enterprise to assist with managing every aspect of the IT Organization including strategy, operations, infrastructure, hardware, software, cloud services, vendor management and end user support. The Senior System Administrator will work as part of a team and collaborate directly with IT management to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
The Senior System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure. The position will require working with servers, network devices, firewalls, storage, software, Cloud systems, desktops, laptops, and mobile devices as well as other technologies to support the organization. This position provides daily administrative tasks, support tasks, and project work.
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for system administration which requires proficiency in several disciplines. The candidate will be required to support an environment with both physical and virtual servers, onsite and cloud systems. The Senior System Administrator will be required to work with Microsoft core technologies across the organization such as Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365 technologies and applications.
The Senior System Administrator will perform daily administrative tasks on the infrastructure as well as work on projects and provide end user support when required. The candidate will be required to maintain and continually improve the environment to provide the highest levels of service to the user base.
The candidate must possess a superior knowledge as well as be able to demonstrate their technical proficiency in Microsoft Systems technologies with experience in managing medium sized enterprise level environments. The candidate must have a solid understanding of standard endpoint, servers, networking, and Internet fundamentals. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot all aspects of Microsoft technologies effectively and understand the product flow patch management, software distribution and logging in detail. Applicants should also have similar skills in Active Directory Services including Azure Active Directory.

Responsibilities
  • Determine and implement best practices for the engineering, configuration, administration, and support of Microsoft and other enterprise level technologies.
  • Provide support for Microsoft Server Operating Systems, and Active Directory.
  • Ensure the Microsoft Server infrastructure stays up to date and performs to the highest level of performance possible.
  • Ensure that IT systems are available and performing within their Service Level Agreement, while identifying problems and acting appropriately to resolve issues when they occur.
  • Research, design and implement new technology solutions as required.
  • Plan and execute the rollout of changes across all infrastructure components including network devices, servers, and endpoints.
  • Download and deploy MS patches using WSUS or other automated utilities.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Performs system maintenance activities, including monitoring parameters, maintaining security/quality assurance, and controlling access.
  • Responds to user requests and system operation issues, aids programming and operations personnel in the utilization of software and resolution of user or system problems.
  • Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating effective cost-conscious contracts.
  • Assists in managing IT vendor relationships and perform vendor management duties.
  • Assist in the oversight of end-user support services, including help desk and technical support services.
  • Ensure Executive White Glove support service assisting with hands-on support when required.
  • Ability to oversee, troubleshoot and improve existing IT Systems.
  • Prioritizes, and implements fixes, updates, and related processes with all IT related systems.
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems and report to IT management.
  • Evaluate and recommend optimization of network and system design.
  • Makes recommendations around IT lifecycle management and end of life systems.
  • Executes IT audits and reviews.
  • Assists IT Management to recommend, create, and support organizational needs as it relates to information systems based on growth, reliability, and security.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery strategy for critical systems and infrastructure.
  • Experience in managing the technical support of a medium sized enterprise and developing the necessary policies and procedures to ensure the successful operation of a secure and compliant environment.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent technical skills, proficiency with design, implementation, and support of enterprise solutions, and exhibit strong project management and communication skill
  • Assess performance of systems and make adjustments, provide capacity planning and growth projections, assist with end-user support, and perform software installs and upgrades.
  • Maintain the operation of various sites - Business operation demands 24/7/365 continuous up time so available for overtime when needed including holidays and weekends
  • Perform ongoing training and self-directed learning to maintain skill set on continuously changing software and hardware platforms.

Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with Microsoft technologies in a medium sized distributed enterprise environment, minimum 5 years working with network technologies and devices including LAN, WAN and WLAN.
  • MCITP or Equivalent Certification or equivalent work experience.
  • Operating System expertise including Active Directory Account Management. This includes the understanding of Active Directory, Windows GPO, WINS, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP and commands.
  • Experience with all recent versions of Windows Server up to and including 2019, Microsoft System Center suite, Windows 10 operating systems, desktops, print servers, printers, MFDs, plotters, Java, Adobe, Hyper-V. VMware experience a plus (vCenter, vSphere, application virtualization, desktop virtualization, VMware View)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 technologies and products including but not limited to Azure Active Directory, MFA, SSO, Intune, Autopilot, Windows Hello, DLP, Email Archive, etc.
  • Experience with scripting (PowerShell, VBScript, or other language) and automating routine infrastructure tasks.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards, standard software package and patch deployment methodologies, standard change control processes within enterprise size corporations
  • Experience with Monitoring Platforms – SolarWinds, Microsoft Service Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Logic Monitor etc.
  • Hands on experience with Cybersecurity policies, procedures, operations, and best practices.
  • Experience with Cybersecurity systems and tools including Secure Email Gateways, Cloud Access Security Brokers, Identity Management systems, Next Generation AV, DNS Firewalls etc.
  • Must have a solid technical background while being able to manage and motivate internal and external support resources.
    • Must be able to plan and direct the work of self and others.
  • Ability to stay detail-oriented in a fast-paced setting and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the organization.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance.
  • Results oriented and self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of IT projects.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously while dealing with frequent interruptions and working in a high-pressure environment.
  • Work rotating off-hour schedule with weekend support to maintain consistent system availability when necessary.
  • Ability to perform routine server maintenance or handle network emergencies during non-business hours, evenings and on the weekend.
  • Develop comprehensive process, planning, testing, and implementation documentation for technologies related to enterprise class infrastructure and applications.
  • Evaluate and test system upgrades, installs and upgrade system software applications, troubleshoots hardware/software related problems and monitors overall systems performance to ensure system upgrade objectives.
  • Participates in mentoring/training of other IT System Administrators and develops documentation for user problem-solving issues, including system and user manuals.
