Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Senior Systems Engineerfor a Contract assignment with one of our premier Financial Services clients in Chicago, IL.

The Senior Systems Engineer will be primarily responsible for the configuration and support of the Post Trade distributed systems and supporting third-party applications. The candidate must have good working knowledge of application deployment, configuration methodologies, as well as CI/CD tools. Additionally, the incumbent must have extensive knowledge of Linux/Windows and Java support experience to assist with support initiatives and to maintain and improve the stability and reliability of execution environments. The individual will align with the development teams and work closely with the security and infrastructure teams, to ensure the applications are built securely, optimally, and reliably, with automation and standards always in mind. Good communication skills are required as the candidate works with internal and external customers for support and new initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with our Technical Operations and Business Operations teams on critical issues by evaluating the problem, proposing and implementing resolutions, and partnering with other teams (DBAs, Networking, Development, etc) as needed for the resolution.
  • Accurately defines complex problem statements, gathers and compares data about the problems and documents the details. Prepares analysis reports and seeks out all feasible alternatives; Prioritizes the alternatives, works out a plan for execution, and analyzes the consequences of each alternative on stakeholders; Makes the decision, then takes the appropriate steps to implement and support the action decided upon.
  • Identifies and defines problem statement and its impacts to upstream/downstream impacts, leading resolution; Troubleshoots known and most new issues, determines the root cause, provides solutions and takes initiative to see the solution through, verifying implementation and making adjustments as necessary. Documents solution and provides clarification and support to others; Reviews work products of others within the team.
  • Deploys in-house and 3rd party applications with a keen focus on automation and hardening.
  • Automates manual processes via scripting and/or tools
  • Collaborates with our Global Information Security team to provide secure solutions.
  • Operates as an outstanding team player, works well with others, and possesses a positive attitude.
  • Ability to provide effective and timely solutions in a very fast-paced environment where multitasking and attention to detail is critical.

  • A strong desire to develop skills and continue to grow.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, capable of managing time well, and works efficiently without close supervision in a very dynamic environment.

Required Skills:
  • In-depth Linux/Unix system administrator experience where the individual has had root access in a large (10,000+ servers) critical production environment. Over 8+ years experience working in this type of environment. Must understand TCP/IP, routing, interfaces, etc in a Unix environment.
  • Expert scripting skills in languages such as Shell, Ruby, Python, Perl, etc. Have written multiple scripts actively used for processing, monitoring and/or deployments in a production environment
  • Technical skills supporting the following 3rd party applications - MQ,CMOD,Informatica, etc.
  • Solid working knowledge with configuration tools such as Jenkins, Chef, andAnsible. Have written multiple Chef recipes and utilized them in the production environment.
  • Experience working withinDevSecOpsarchitecture with Continuous Integration and Continues Delivery solutions.
  • Experience working in an AWS environment, supporting applications and deployments
  • Understanding of current and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to provide effective and timely solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Preferred Skills:
  • Google Cloud experience a plus.
