Job Description:


The main function of a legal secretary paralegal is to assist lawyers by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. A typical paralegal is responsible for conducting research to support a legal proceeding, formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.

  • Responsible for reviewing legal documents related to the release of protected health information.
  • Supporting the companys privacy compliance programs, including compliance with state and federal laws governing privacy and rules and requirements. Performs routine legal research, compiles requested data, and works closely with attorneys when applicable.
  • Communicates and explains privacy rules and regulations.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleading, appeals, wills, contracts, and real estate closing statements.
  • Prepare affidavits or other documents, maintain document file, and file pleadings with court clerk.
  • Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents.
  • Investigate facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.
  • Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.

  • Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage ones time.
  • Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and the democratic political process.
  • Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Associates degree from an accredited ABA Paralegal Programs with 3 years of recent legal experience working as or with paralegals
  • Paralegal Advanced Competency Examination.
  • Experience with determining the release of information according to the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Act of 1996.
  • Excellent communication and organization abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies or equivalent training required.
  • 5-7 years experience required.
