Postdoctoral Appointee - Threadwork

Vacancy expired!

Basic Purpose :The Materials Science Division (MSD) of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral appointee. The goal of this research is to create thin films and heterostructures of topological materials, particularly semimetals, that may have a tunable plasmonic response in the THz regime. This effort is part of project to realize novel materials for THz interconnects. Samples will be synthesized using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) and other approaches and characterized using optical and transport measurements.Position RequirementsKnowledge, Skills and Experience:A strong background in materials science/condensed mater physics/electrical engineering and a keen interest in synthesis and science of materials with novel electronic and optical properties.

Experience with optical characterization of materials is desirable.

The ability to understand the technological landscape for interconnects and recognize scientific opportunities for innovation therein.

You should have recently received a Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to the research area (materials science/condensed matter physics).

This project will involve experimental laboratory work in thin film synthesis, fabrication of lithographically defined structures and characterization of their optical and transport properties. The work will involve extensive use of facilities at the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne, including THz optics. The candidate is expected to think and work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of physicists, materials scientists, computer scientists and engineers who are part of a new initiative on microelectronics at Argonne National Laboratory. For further inquiries, please contact Dr. Xuedan Ma ( xuedan.ma@anl.gov ) or Dr. Anand Bhattacharya ( anand@anl.gov ). We will evaluate applications starting in November 2021 until the position is filled.Job FamilyPostdoctoral FamilyJob ProfilePostdoctoral AppointeeWorker TypeLong-Term (Fixed Term)Time TypeFull timeAs an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
