As a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you will perform duties relating to security, fire, medical, and hazardous materials response. HAZWOPER Technician and Confined Space Rescue response will be included after further training. The Firefighter /EMT is responsible for inspecting and maintaining fire suppression systems/equipment, site inspections, and to write burn and weld permits. The Firefighter /EMT will respond, drive, and operate emergency response vehicles and provide fire and medical services, and other emergency response, as necessary. The Firefighter /EMT will patrol the premises, conducting fire and security related inspections. Perform special test standby’s, unlocks, vehicle inspections, and report writing. The Firefighter /EMT will perform security tours, identify access levels, and assure proper documentation is generated/submitted for various items. The Firefighter /EMT will answer telephones, direct calls, close road systems, perform patrols, walk clocks, and perform any other facility or supervisor request that may develop. Perform security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle; watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
Respond to fire, medical and other emergencies
Issue hot work permits and confined space permits, perform tank sniffs
Conduct inspections per schedule
Maintain fire protection systems, fire equipment, fire pumps/systems, and hydrants
Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in high pressure emergent situations
Required to participate on Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT) and other specialized teams
The Ideal Candidate:Education, Licenses and Certifications Required
Must possess each of the following:
Current and valid State of Illinois Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license
Current and valid driver’s license
High school diploma or equivalent
Must possess a valid Basic Life Support CPR/AED card from American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or EMS
Must possess a current Hazardous Materials First Responder at the Operations Level certificate in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120(q), or be able to complete within 30 days of hire
Must possess NIMS 200 certification, or be able to complete within 30 days of assignment
Must possess one or more of the following:
Fire academy graduate from a State certified or Department of Defense certified training facility meeting the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications training guidelines
Firefighter I or Firefighter II certificate from a State Fire Marshal's office or from the Department of Defense adopted by the state where fire services are performed
Type and Length of Specific Experience Required
If previously employed, meaningful and verifiable work history

Must have a thorough knowledge of fire protection principles and techniques
Successfully pass NFPA 1582 firefighter medical exam conducted by a licensed physician
Must have clean driving record per MVR
Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military
