Data designand metadata management is a key component of the platform to ensureunderstanding of the data as well reusability.The metadata specialist is accountable for building a metadata processesand catalogs for the Cat Digital Platform.Come join us in this exciting journey and be part of theworld class organization and play a key role in its digital transformation.JOB DUTIES:As a metadataspecialist you will contribute to design of Caterpillar’s state-of-the-artdigital platform.
Creates, updates, and enhances metadata for the Cat Digital Platform
Liaises with metadata creators across the Cat Digital Platform to support metadata project planning, training, guidance on standards, and the efficient creation/maintenance of high-quality metadata
Contributes to metadata policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements for Cat Digital Platform repository, and other tools
Participates in large-scale and targeted remediation projects to improve discovery and access to digital content
Discover, both within Technology and Business areas, to understand their data needs and help them understand the role of metadata as a part of our overall strategy
Champions and influences metadata adoption across lines of businesses
Build dashboards and metrics to measure adoption and completion of metadata management
Work with business data stewards to drive business ownership of data definitions
Enable automated metadata driven solutions accelerating time to market of key data capabilities
Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to constantly monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements, and related technology solutions.
Minimal travel required (less than 10% of working time)QualificationsBACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:Basic Qualifications:
A four-year degree from an accredited college or university
1 years of experience with tools and techniques for data normalization, data analysis and mapping, and transformation.
1 years of experience in the application and usage of general or domain metadata schemas for organizing and managing information.
1 years of experience in the application and usage of general or domain metadata schemas for organizing and managing information.TopCandidates will also have:
Experience in Metadata Management role within a large corporation preferably high tech or technology manufacturing
Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts
Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabularies, authority control, data modeling, and schema design.
Good organizational skills and an aptitude for complex analytical and detailed work; ability to prioritize among multiple concurrent projects in order to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present and share ideas effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.
Experience with data profiling tools such as Alteryx
Experience with metadata managers like Erwin’s Mapping Manager
Experience with data cataloging tools such as Collibra
Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, and big data analytics.
Knowledge of data technology products and components for Big Data and Cloud (AWS, Data Lakes, and similar).
BS in Information Systems, Library Science, computer science or similar technical degree
