Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Serves as a clinical resource for physicians, psychologists, nurses and ancillary staff to provide exceptional, compassionate care while following FDA guidelines for egg retrievals, embryo transfers and surrogacy. This requires immediate response and communication to key team members, maintaining a consistent alertness to patient care needs, and taking a proactive approach to address/resolve issues. - Maintains the anonymity and confidentiality of all involved parties egg donors, sperm donors, and gestational carriers. - Collaborates with outside, third-party agencies that refer to Fertility and Reproductive Medicine (FRM) for cases where a donor, embryo or gestational carrier is needed. This includes egg banks and donor referral agencies that send patients to FRM. - Collaborates with outside attorneys, psychologists, financial coordinators, insurance companies, physicians, staff, and others as necessary to coordinate patients care and service. - Counsels patients regarding the details pertaining to third-party reproduction and the steps required in the lengthy process of care. Requires previous knowledge of IVF protocols, timelines for retrieval and embryo transfers, and consents for procedure and legal issues of all parties involved. - Confirms and facilitates required psychologist visits. - Adheres to strict FDA guidelines. - Reviews medical records for egg donors, gestational surrogates, and intended parents, as appropriate. - Reviews of lab orders and test completion. - Confirms genetic carrier screening is completed for egg donors, intended parents and husband of intended parent. - Confirms waivers are signed for gestational surrogates if intended parent lab work is not completed under FDA guidelines. Upon completion of labs and genetic screening, clears patient to move forward with clinical services. - Completes prior authorizations for medications, ensures medications are ordered, and provides patients with injection and medication education. - Initiates and coordinates patient education. Ensures that patients understand educational materials and can exhibit return demonstration when pertinent. Provides teaching to staff on both a formal and informal basis. Participates in community outreach education, patient support groups or specialty-related educational programs offered to hospital and community nurses, as requested. - Communicates and Coordinates cycles for out-of-town FDA patients. - Completes and provides outcome reports to all outside referring agencies after the egg donor retrieval is completed. - Prepares for and participates in unannounced FDA audits. - Complies with all existing policies and procedures related to patient care. Makes recommendations to management regarding new policies and procedures that may improve the patient experience. Assures that new policies and procedures are implemented in a timely manner. Creates and improves checkliststo track results, consents, FDA lab work for egg donors, sperm donors, gestational surrogates, and intended parents. The following responsibilities of the standard Nurse Clinician role also apply: - Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations. Reports deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Assists in rectifying deficiencies as requested. Assumes responsibility for and supervision of the appropriate care of medical equipment. - Provides pre-attending care for patients. For each patient, performs a comprehensive assessment of the chief complaint and patient needs utilizing the nursing process. Based on findings, seeks solutions and offers opinions to physicians and other health care providers. Documents all nursing assessments in the patients medical record. Ensures that all documentation is clear, complete and legible. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Understands and upholds the protocols and procedures for release of patient/medical information. - Performs routine nursing responsibilities and demonstrates clinical competency. Independently performs routine nursing responsibilities including phlebotomy, medication administration, measurement of vital signs, preparation of lab specimens, etc. Demonstrates clinical competency when performing complex specialty-related procedures, including IM chemotherapy administration and IUI intrauterine inseminations. - Interprets and defines abnormalities detected in tests and procedures, then takes appropriate remedial action. Documents all interventions in the patient medical record as appropriate. Ensures that all documentation is clear, complete and legible. - Triages and prioritizes incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards. Documents all assessments in the patient medical record as appropriate. Ensures that all documentation is clear, complete and legible. - Manages urgent/emergent medical situations as appropriate and in accordance with the organizations protocols for medical emergencies and cardiac arrests. Obtains and/or operates emergency equipment according to relevant standards.

Qualifications

Required: - Graduated from an accredited school of nursing - Active and Registered Professional Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois - AHA BLS Provider Certification - 1-2 years of experience in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility - Nursing Certification through the American Society of Reproductive Medicine Preferred: - Previous experience in third-party coordinating - Previous experience with coordinating care by referrals from outside agencies - Experience with FDA lab requirements - Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Nursing
