excellence every day.Tech – Unit Support (Patient Care Assistant/Unit Secretary)The Tech-Unit Support (TUS) is a dual role that has the unique
opportunity to care for patients as well as assist other caregivers in
administrative duties while on shift. This position offers built-in
variety with each shift by allowing for some shifts to be worked at the
bedside as a Patient Care Assistant and others to be spent as a Unit
Secretary, acting as the hub for information flow.As a bedside caregiver, a Unit Support Tech who will provide a great
patient experience by anticipating the needs of patients such as
providing drinks, assisting with meal ordering, encouraging walking,
assisting with baths, and providing clean linens and gowns.Our Unit Support Techs have compassion for our patients, a caring
bedside manner, and an ability to work in a fast paced environment.
They will provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining
vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in a patient's
behavior to the primary RN or charge nurse in order to detect and
provide rapid treatment. A PCA always keeps patients safe by utilizing
safety measures such as gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and staying
within arm's reach of patients when moving around.The unit secretary responsibilities include answering & triaging phone
calls, communicating with physicians, answering call lights and routing
to the appropriate caregiver, preparing paperwork for new patient
arrival, communicating with bed management, and ensuring office supplies

High School Diploma or GED is required.
May be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or
successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
Requires basic computer skills.
Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or
attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
Other advanced life support certifications may be required per
unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient
care activities.
Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
