Medical Support Assistant (MSA) and works collaboratively in an
interdisciplinary coordinated Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in
the Primary Care Dearborn Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC),
Lawrenceburg, IN.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) for the Dearborn CBOC
duties include but are not limited to:
Ensures outpatient clinic appointments are scheduled timely,
properly places patients on the Recall Reminder List, documents
attempts to contacts within the prescribed timeframe;
Ensures Consult Appointments are scheduled using the Clinically
Indicated Date (CID); utilizes placement of the Veteran's Choice
List (VCL);
Collects and verifies patient's demographic information;
Ensures all patients listed on the Insurance Capture Buffer
(ICB) verification list have a buffer entry;
Closes out administrative encounters for face to face
appointments, appropriately document No Shows and Cancellations
and verify and properly complete all Disposition Orders at the
end of the day;
Fosters and promotes an environment conducive of outstanding
customer relations and customer satisfaction;
Participates in all team meetings, as well as, follows up on
administrative tasked items;
Communicates effectively with the Patient Aligned Care Team
(PACT) members via Lynx, Outlook or telephone;
Prepares clinic set-up for the next day prior to the end of the
duty day, organizes work flow to maximize efficiency and protect
patient identifying information;
Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or
Lead/Office Manager.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Basic Requirements:

- Experience and/or Education
- Experience: Six months experience of clerical, office or
other work that indicates the ability to acquire the
particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties
of the position; or
- Education: One year above high school; or
- Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination
of experience and education are qualifying for entry level
for which both education and experience are acceptable.
- English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in
spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005,
part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.Grade Determinations:GS-06 Grade RequirementsExperience: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower
grade level (GS-5). Specialized Experience includes but is not
limited to: Operating computerized programs and systems in order to
enter, modify and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying
information into or from electronic health records, scheduling
systems and/or reports; Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
specific to understand medical diagnosis and procedures sufficient
to communicate clinical staff instructions to patients; Scheduling
medical appointments in a clinical setting; Working independently in
the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties in performing patient
support work; Communicating effectively and professionally in
person, electronically, and/or by telephone, as necessary, to ensure
satisfactory resolution; Identifying customer's concerns, and refer
to the appropriate staff, as necessary to ensure a satisfactory
resolution.In addition the Experience Requirements listed above, Candidates
must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
listed below:
1. Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and
organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring
compliance with established processes, policies, and
regulations.
2. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally
and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may
include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data
to various organizational levels.
3. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it
relates to access to care.
4. Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes
independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and
empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a
complex systems environment.
5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with
operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient
care, and the revenue process.
6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical
