Job Description:
A Clay County Farm has the following employment opportunities. Students or graduates interested in farming and agriculture are encouraged to apply. Specific tasks will be tailored to the final candidates strengths but in general responsibilities include: planting, nurturing, pest, weed and disease crop management and the harvesting and transportation of crops. Ideal candidates would live in the west central Indiana, Clay County area including Terre Haute, Greencastle, Brazil and Clay City.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Because we are a 2000+ acre working farm, this position requires physical, outdoor work in hot, cold, rainy and snowy weather. It involves getting dirty and working around farm chemicals and machinery. Long hours and working on weekends during planting and harvest seasons is required. Hours are more flexible outside these seasons.
Responsibilities include:
o General cleanup of facilities and grounds
o Mowing of land adjacent to fields
o Proactive, preventative, routine and breakdown maintenance of farming equipment
o Routine pickup and delivery of necessary supplies, including the towing of filled tanks
o Operating farm machinery as necessary to plant, harvest and transport crops
o Ensuring a safe work environment is maintained
o Ensuring compliance to existing environmental requirements
o Assisting with data collection
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Post high school education in agricultural or equivalent experience
Valid drivers license
Previous experience on an operating grain farm
Able to operate modern farm equipment including GPS operating systems: tractor, combine, sprayer, grain leg, grain truck, etc.
Able to lift approximately 50#, e.g. full bags of seed, bottled chemicals, and other supplies
Able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather
This is an operating grain farm and daily attendance is a requirement especially during the planting and harvesting seasons.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Able to work independently once they and their supervisor are confident of skill mastery
Possess a mechanical aptitude
Applicants must display a positive attitude and be a good team player
ADDITIONAL NOTES
A background check and/or drug test may be administered
Will train successful applicants as necessary
A commercial drivers license (CDL), spraying and/or fertilizer license is a plus
