This position is for a staff software engineer responsible for design, development, integration, verification, and certification of avionics solutions developing the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Mission Avionics software applications.

Our engineers work in a highly technical and rewarding environment with the ability to influence new software products. Our staff software engineers utilize a variety of skills on a regular basis including synthesis of new and existing architectures that meld commercial and military avionics functionality, software engineering development best practices, DevOps, and providing written and verbal correspondence across multiple international boundaries / management levels / domains.

This position can be located in either Cedar Rapids, IA or Huntsville, AL

Primary Responsibilities :

Serve as the primary technology and software engineering focal point for leadership and the customer for FVL Mission Avionics Communication and Surveillance software applications

Lead development and communication of software applications for FVL Mission Avionics solutions and associated technologies and product lines

Establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers

Present technical information and status to several levels of engineering leadership

Work with other team members and domains to develop requirements, software design and code that satisfy customer and certification needs

Continually work to maintain compliance with certification requirements as well as Collins Aerospace standards and best practices

Produce high quality software builds in an integrated test environment

Provide mentorship to other engineers toward helping the team / program succeed

Continually develop and improve software development practices and processes related to development and certification

May lead software engineering project teams.

May be responsible for cost, schedule and technical performance throughout development.

Participate in bid and pursuit activities

Basic Qualifications :

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience.

In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation / reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Qualifications (Required) :

Demonstrated leadership of successful software development from requirements through verification

In-depth experience in software architecture, design and development using languages such as C, C, and / or Python.

Ability to collaborate well across multiple disciplines and domains

Highly self-motivated and contributing to a positive work environment

Waterfall, Spiral, and Agile Software Development experiences

Experience with DOORS, SVN, and Atlassian Software Development tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, JAMA, etc.)

Experience highly desired :

Understanding of radio communications (VHF, UHF, HF, SATCOM etc.)

Understanding of aircraft surveillance, IFF / TCAS modes

Knowledge of ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and other avionics bus protocols

Experience with TCP / IP network applications development

Experience with APEX and / or Subversion

Avionics software development experience

Cost Account Management (CAM) experience

Test Automation (Python) experience

Experience in both embedded systems and hosted application software development

Data / Sensor Fusion background / experience

Helmet Mounted / Tracking software development experience

Parametric estimating and bidding experience
