About our Business:

Overhead Door Company of Dubuque, locally known as Cedar Cross Overhead Door, was purchased by Dan Pregler in 1982. He started the business with a handful of employees and soon brought his sons into the trade. Currently, Dan and his two sons, Chip and Jack, co-own the business and continue to grow our staff and expand our service area into parts of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. We have a fleet of trucks and several members of office staff, all who work together to provide the best service possible for our customers.

Experience and Training:

We are looking for someone who is a self-starter and a quick learner with leadership capabilities. We do not require any previous experience, but a construction background is helpful. We will provide on the job training. This position will be filled by someone with a strong work ethic, who takes pride in their work and is a dependable team member. Installers must have a clean driving record and be able to operate a company vehicle and on occasion, hydraulic lifts

Work description:

Garage Door Installers work on a variety of products, including but not limited to residential and commercial sectional doors, rolling steel doors, fire doors, dock seals, dock bumpers and levelers, electric openers and accessories. Common repair work includes replacing broken springs, defective circuit boards, setting and adjusting limits, programming remotes, installing keyless entries, receivers and other accessories, straightening bent sections, measuring for new doors or openers and teaching customers how to use their products.

Problem Solving Skills: Its often difficult to trouble shoot what needs to be done to solve a customers problem. We are looking for an installer who is resourceful, thinks on their feet, and can complete repairs or installations when conditions are less than ideal or when the answer isnt obvious.

Customer Service Skills: As the face of our business, interactions with customers are critical. This requires excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone. We require our installers to have a neat, clean appearance, polite demeanor, and to always conduct themselves in a manner that makes the customer feel confident in our ability to both solve their problem and show we are trustworthy to be on their property.

This skill set also applies to working with coworkers- we ask everyone to be courteous of each other and foster an environment where we can learn together and grow as individuals and as a company.

Documentation: This position requires detailed documentation in order to communicate aspects of the job with the office staff. The service notes provided by an installer sharing the details of each job are used to generate invoices and communicate further needs for the customer. The documentation provided includes time on the job, parts used and any further necessary repairs or recommendations. This helps the office to invoice appropriately and note anything of interest in each customers account for future reference.

Team Work: Installers must be able to work efficiently both on their own and with others. Both group work and independent work are required, depending on the complexity of the job.

Work Conditions:

The job requires you to travel with in our service area, as much as 75 miles from Dubuque. No overnight travel is required. We service the tri-state area, including work sites in IL, WI and IA.

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Dressing for the weather is important in this position.

Installers are required to work on ladders daily- this candidate will need to be comfortable working from heights.

Competitive starting wages and raised upon performance reviews annually.

Health Insurance provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield, is available, paid at 95% for single coverage. Family coverage available at the additional expense of the employee.

Voluntary insurances, including short term disability, accident coverage and critical illness coverage, are available. These insurances are available at a substantially lower price than an individual could find with a single policy.

CCOHD offers 401K after 1 year of full time service for employees who have worked over 1000 in the year and are over 21 years of age, which includes a 3% safe harbor contribution, a discretionary profit sharing contribution in addition to the employees voluntary contribution.

1 week of paid vacation is available after 1 year of service, 2 weeks after 5 years of service. You can accumulate up to 2 years of vacation.

6 paid holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Uniform Allowance is given twice a year. Full time installers receive a total of $140.00 per year to purchase uniform pants. Shirts are provided.

Tool Allowance is provided once a year with a $100.00 stipend. Installers are required to provide their own hand tools, and most choose to furnish their own wireless impact.
