This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's electric delivery system. (20%)Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (10%)Assists in detailed planning for construction work requests, including work instruction preparation, construction site drawings, preparation of material lists, technical calculations, and switching sequence planning. (20%)Performs a variety of routine field work including, but not limited to locating and sizing services, load determination, utility easement acquisition, staking and survey work of moderate difficulty, measurement of overhead distribution lines, obtaining load reads, and setting of voltage measurement hardware. (15%)Verifies and documents construction site readiness, ensuring MEC requirements are met for backfill, grading, and conduit installation requirements. (5%)Actively engages with customer requests and responds to service needs as appropriate. Works collaboratively with residential, commercial, and industrial construction developers, municipal engineering authorities, state engineering authorities, and residential general construction personnel for wide array of service requests. (15%)Provides customers with scheduling notifications as appropriate (may include but not limited to email, text alerts, and/or phone calls). Also provides customers with scheduling change notifications via the same mediums. (5%)Provide technical support for work requests, resolves technical issues, and ensures crews understand work scope, detail, and structure. (5%)Conduct technical studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (5%)Ensures that customer inquiries and engineering detail adhere to standard operating procedures involving tariff application, extension rules and agreements, service rules, code requirements, service entrance, and metering requirements. (0-5%)Assists distribution engineering in development of project scopes and schedules using project management concepts and software. (0-5%)Responsible for emergency response activities, outage response supervisory activities, outage dispatch, downed wire investigation and field damage assessment. (0-5%)May require travel and overnight stay as workload dictates. (0-5%)May require design and project management oversight of moderate complexity for the natural gas delivery system. (0-5%)Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)The engineering technician - electric provides planning, cost estimating, design, construction and coordination of gas and/or electric distribution facilities. The engineering technician - electric applies established engineering standards and practices in the following areas: planning distribution systems; determining pipe, cable and equipment sizes due to customer and system loads; system design alternatives and their associated costs; project timing and coordination; procurement of materials and field inspection; troubleshooting and maintenance services and all other assigned duties.Associate's degree in a technical area or equivalent related work experience such as civil, construction, computer aided drafting, electrical trade, or project management.
