Volt is seeking an Engine Development Engineer to work onsite at John Deere's Power Systems (JDPS) facility in Waterloo, IA. This is a contingent position forecasted for three years. Within this role, you will have shared management of a performance and emissions dyno. In addition you will:

  • Define detailed engine test plans and schedule dyno test work
  • Write work orders and communicate needs to test cell operators
  • Prepare engines for testing and write assembly and instrumentation work orders
  • Analyze test results, present results and lead discussions
  • Calibrate base engine software features and help to develop new software features
  • Provide technical guidance to other groups (field performance, calibration, applications, etc.)
  • Contribute to engine and aftertreatment hardware development


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural or Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; a strong candidate will have a Master's degree in Engineering or additional classes in thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, combustion, engine performance, theory or design
Required Skills:
  • 2+ years of experience in engine engineering
  • A basic understanding of diesel engine performance and emissions
  • 6+ months of experience in engine or component development testing

Desired Skills:
  • One or more years of experience with engine development or engine control system development or engine component/subsystem development
  • Proficiency in the use of engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of diesel engine emissions control technologies and emissions regulations
  • Demonstrated skills in the clear communication of technical data and project information

Strong Candidate:
  • Experience with performance and emissions development of heavy-duty diesel engines, including the use of controller development tools
  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques
  • User experience with GT-Power
  • User experience with National Instruments Diadem analysis software
  • User experience with MATLAB and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)

Candidates must be able to relocate to this location at their own expense.
Must be available to work on W2 for Volt. No C2C or 3rd party vendors please.
