Senior or Mechanical EngineerThis aerospace client in Orange City, Iowa is seeking a Senior or Mechanical Engineer for a full-time direct opportunity. The company is a contract component manufacturer & developer, offering a full line of services from design, analysis, prototyping & production of advanced composite structures. The Senior or Mechanical Engineer position will be responsible for the development of concepts and the design of complex mechanical or electrical equipment, parts, fixtures, tools and assemblies utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) tools and software.Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:Reviews customer specifications and drawings; supports new product opportunitiesDesigns products, tools, and fixtures to meet customer requirementsProduces engineering drawings; responsible for accuracy of drawings to match design specificationPrepares test procedures and writes test reports, technical proposals and other engineering related documentsResponsible for all associated testing requirements, qualification and compliance of design to customer?s specificationsPrepares and leads design reviews and supports other meeting requestsDesign assembly and fabrication tooling and fixtures; Troubleshoot problems, including but not limited to assembly, test, machining and process problemsInvestigate problems and resolution (RCCA) in production and new products Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, work standards and status reports to ensure adherence to release schedules and quality requirements Establish and verify assembly standards to optimize material flow (one peace flow concept), assembly processes and cost validation.Review, refine, approve and coordinate product release ECN's both internally and with supply chain.Design and order assembly and fabrication tooling, fixtures, and Cutters; Troubleshoot problems, including but not limited to assembly, test, machining and process problemsSupport production cutter replacement and/or re-sharpeningInvestigate and resolve machining problems relative to fixture and cutter designsMaintain fabrication files for Fixtures/Tool Aides and Cutter log filesMaintain and improve toolmaker and tool & cutter supply chainDigital Product Definition Translations (DPD)Update existing production tooling 3D models/prints as needed.Generate and maintain 3D models and prints using Solidworks.Utilize and maintain 3D models/prints using Enterprise PDM (vault) software.Other duties as assigned by engineering manager.Support all tooling design needs of the Orange City Operations.Specific Job Skills:Ability to read blueprints, machine shop knowledge, drafting and engineering knowledge.Working experience with materials such as aluminum castings, forgings, bar stock, stainless steel, alloy and steel.Excellent working knowledge of aerospace process and assembliesKnowledge of military and commercial aerospace specifications and standardsKnowledge of aerospace hardware and associate specificationsExcellent technical writing skillsExperience with troubleshooting non-conforming material Assist/contribute/lead product and process improvements in the fabrication, assembly and test process Initiate drawing changesDesign cutters and fixtures relative to precision machining.Able to work with minimal supervisionWorking experience with materials such as aluminum castings, forgings, bar stock, stainless steel, alloy and steel.Knowledge of military and commercial aerospace specifications and standardsThorough understanding of machine tolerances, GD&T, and NC machine capabilitiesThorough understanding of CAD software primarily Solid WorksEducation and/or Experience:BSME or relevant engineering degree.1-4 years? experience in designing molds and support fixture for manufacturing composite components and structures.1-4 years? experience in composite manufacturing including: Autoclave molding, Compression molding, Vacuum/oven cure process.Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises Mechanical Design TechnicianJob Conditions:Work is mostly performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk for more than 7 hours a day.Up to 5% travel may be required.Physical factors?Ability to climb ladders, operate hand & power tools, drive fork lift, assemble heavy mechanisms, Physical Demands (standing, sitting, lifting, bending, and climbing), Frequency (random throughout shift).Flexibility to alter work schedule to occasionally work around production schedules.Volt is an Equal Opportunity Employer
