Summary:Under the direction and guidance of a registered technologist, performs radiographic examinations or various anatomical parts and systems of the body in order to assist physicians in the diagnosis and/or treatment of physical injuries or medical disorders. Provides support to the Radiology department and Medical Imaging reception areas.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Under the supervision of a Registered Radiologist Technologist, assists with the following duties:

Prepares and positions patient for diagnostic imaging procedures.

Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.

Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.

Moves imaging equipment into specified position, determines exposure factors on basis of height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy.

Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.

Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.

Measures and mixes barium and contrast media.

Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.

Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician.

Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.

Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.

Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.

Performs office work including, but not limited to, answering phone, filing, obtaining information from computer.

Provides a positive image to customers by creating a friendly atmosphere and placing a high priority on meeting customer needs in a courteous manner.

Provides services in a prompt manner at times convenient for the customers.

Understands and practices patient confidentiality.

Displays a professional appearance.

Responds to needs and is knowledgeable of appropriate care for school-aged through gerontological patients.

Is supportive of the mission, vision and goals of SVH in attitude and action.

Contributes to a team atmosphere by demonstrating excellent communication skills, taking initiative to perform needed tasks, and being flexible to go beyond normal expectations to meet the needs of others.

Demonstrates a commitment to continuing personal and/or professional development.

Seeks opportunities to improve knowledge base by attending departmental meetings, in services and other educational activities.

Satisfactory completion of the first year of an American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) approved training program.
