Construction Inspector / Engineering Technician (Topeka, KS)

This position reads and interprets construction plans, blueprints, maps, legal descriptions and drawings of construction plans. Inspects and documents new construction, renovation and repair work for quality, materials, and workmanship to ensure that all work complies with specifications, ordinances and City standards. Reviews plans and specifications with contractors and superiors for code compliance, prepares and maintains construction progress reports. Performs soil, concrete, asphalt, utility and a variety of other materials testing in both field and laboratory settings.

Concrete drive approaches

Concrete sidewalks

Reconstruction of asphalt and concrete streets

New construction of asphalt and concrete streets

New sanitary sewer line installations

New storm sewer installations

Manhole installations

Curb inlet installations

Right of way permit inspections

Service request inspections

Backfill of trenches

Subgrade for new roads

Minimum requirements: High school diploma or equivalent with significant skill in mathematics and one (1) year of experience or one year of high school level training in Engineering field required. Must have the following certifications or be able to obtain within one year of employment: ACI level I certification, APWA Construction Inspector certification and/or KDOT Level IIAC and Nuclear gauge safety certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Kansas drivers license and a city insurable driving record.

$16.50 per hour.
