Job Description

Job Title: Social Worker

Reports To: Principal

Summary

The social worker provides a variety of services to pupils, parents, and staff. A particular emphasis is placed on developing social skills, conflict resolution skills, and strategies for dealing with a myriad of challenges and opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • · Serves on the multidisciplinary team and participates in staffing meetings
  • · Conducts and writes comprehensive social assessments of individual students
  • · Develops and uses a variety of intervention methods in individual, group, family counseling, and crisis management
  • · Works with parents in helping them to understand their child’s education, social, and intellectual needs
  • · Helps parents alleviate adverse conditions that lead to impaired functioning in their children
  • · Interprets data, collaborates effectively when writing individual educational plans, and implements intervention strategies
  • · Develops and locates resources and services for students and their parents
  • · Performs casework service with individual students
  • · Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case and in establishing and planning the respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior
  • · Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, outside agencies
  • · Makes home visits
  • · Serves as liaison between home and school
  • · Assists students in adjusting to school
  • · Maintains records and completes reports as requested
  • · Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • · Uses effective oral and written communication skills
  • · Supports the District’s educational mission for all students and implements all Board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner
  • · Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign

Certificates/Licenses/Endorsements/Registrations

  • Kansas social worker’s license required

Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s degree in school social work required

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals. Ability to write clearly; keep detailed records; effectively produce reports, letters, and memoranda; and to carry out complex tasks. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Breach of said professional conduct includes, but is not limited to: neglect of duty, dishonesty, engagement in acts that are contrary to district policy, unlawful activities, or any other conduct which is seriously prejudicial to the school system.
