Position Title: Innovation Engineer – Refrigeration Louisville, KY Fulltime www.midea.com We are seeking a creative engineer to lead efforts to develop innovative new features and products for the Midea Refrigeration business. This engineer will own the entire project life cycle from ideation to concepting, and ultimately designing, building and testing their ideas. This position will leverage their industry experience to drive quick development with a heavy focus on consumer usability. This includes performing competitive assessments on industry leading products and features. The position requires an ability to quickly grasp and design a concept, test it, and redesign. This is a full-time position. Some international travel is required. Essential Job Responsibilities
Own multiple feature and small subsystem redesign projects. Focus is on consumer usability, and experiential enhancements.
Perform competitive assessments that account for the presence of new technologies and their potential impact on business decisions.
Identify & scope needed product innovations.
Work with marketing and consumer research persons to gain consumer insights on usability to validate customer acceptance of any new ideas.
Research existing IP, and manage all new disclosures and USPTO filings associated with assigned projects.
Manage day to day interactions with personnel from Industrial Design, Marketing, Product Management, Safety, Regulatory, Consumer Insights, and others.
Maintain weekly interaction with global design teams, including taking occasional evening/weekend calls.
Develop features and support the associated system integration needed to launch new products.
Build working prototypes in a lab environment for testing, acceptance and leadership team design reviews.
Utilize industry expertise to aid Midea quality and service organizations in root cause investigations and corrective actions for product in production.
Consult with and train the China-based development team members in the areas of US design requirements relative to performance, usability, reliability, technical risk, and safety.
Act as a mentor for Junior Engineers on the team; share their areas of expertise with entire MARC office.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
5+ years consumer product design experience
Passion for cooking and using kitchen appliances.
3D CAD software knowledge (ie. Solidworks)
Strong problem solving and root cause skills
Goal oriented and self-managed
Familiarity with fabrication tools
Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
Basic experience with coding and electrical controls (ie. Arduino)
Knowledge of plastic design for injection molding and prototyping
Knowledge of basic tolerancing and design for manufacturing
Familiarity with consumer insights, and qualitative/quantitative testing of new concepts
History of working with global colleagues
